Perhaps we should ask the President to sort out our mess with the EU? It is obvious that our weak politicians have got no idea on how to negotiate.

The lack of agreement is clearly illustrated when Trump's rebuffed when he attempts to leave hand in small hand.

Nonetheless this is a welcome change of direction and tone by the president, coupled with the hard hitting words by Mike Pompeo about Russia.
For now at least Trump seems to appreciate who are the good guys and who the bad guys.
The US and the EU in a trade war would be a catastrophe.
So I agree with AOG, for now

/// I'm not sure why you are saying"well done". First he starts a trade war, then he tries to stop it. He could have just not started it in the first place. ///
Guess your one who wouldn't see a negotiation tactic if it hit you square on the nose. Are you by any chance part of the Brexit negotiation team?

As usual the Trumpster shows the way. Stop pussy footing around with these charlatans who do not live in the real world. They have a mystic approach and Trump is a businessman. I’ve been saying it since day one…start playing silly burgers and we’ll reciprocate. The VB/AB see it but won’t acknowledge it because they want to stay in barmpot and Juncket’s playground. Hit us with duty we hit you, end of. Why is that so difficult to grasp? As an opener I’d slap 50% on German jam jars tomorrow and wait for them to get back.
//but by starting it he moved negotiations along//
This thread is surreal. If he hadn't started a trade war there would be no need for negotiations to end it.
//Well there is no doubting Mr Trump is successful in business.// He inherited his money, has been involved in bankruptcy 8 times, and it's been calculated that he'd be worth a lot more if he'd just invested in a managed fund.

The whole reason this problem exists is because Trump ramped up the rhetoric and slapped on tariffs earlier this year. He's now (apparently) climbed down on further tariffs, and the original ones that started the problem are somewhat up in the air.
I'm not sure on what planet this qualifies as a 'victory' for the US, especially as he's had to issue a $12bn bailout for American farmers who were losing business from the situation he created.
