Northamptonshire Council Going Bust
Another example of lily-livered *** not standing up to a bullying government (actually it was Thatcher and her rate-capping that started it).
I’d bet the people of Northamptonshire would gladly pay a pound or two a week extra and maintain their services, but no, the council officials kow-tow to this pernicious legislation.

The chickens are only just coming home to roost but they have been in a prolonged holding-pattern for very many years.

It's nothing to do with Brexit - but Zacs gets the 'desperate shoehorn' prize for today.
I live there and wouldn't pay a penny (let alone a few pounds) to save them.
Northants CC have been a shambles for years - a shocking mixture of corruption and inefficiency - regardless of which bunch of utter incompetents has been in power.
Locals (including me) have watched on in despair as they stagger from bad to worse to (frankly) ****ing abysmal.
Mere abolition is too good for them - shooting would be better - but at least a couple of unitary authorities cannot be any worse - and might even be better.

//The situation has been caused by the people that the leave voters trust more than the EU to run our affairs. //
I guess you refer (above) to the current executive in Westminster. whereas the situation in Northampton has been brought about by mismanagement and corruption at a local level over many years. try as I might, I can't make Northampton's corruption the fault of the government.

No, Bainbrig.....I don't know one person who lives in Northants and has been aware of the inefficiency and corruption that has been going on for far too long who would give a penny a week extra.
Our services would be in a far healthier position now were it not for the millions of pounds that have been "disappearing".
A report has said that years mismanagement of funds has brought us to this..... It wasn't only mismanagement.
You want the officials to stand up? They'd be standing alone.
Do you know the full background to this?

It feel like only a few years ago they built new offices, with fountains and lakes....and then wanted more. Why? And the stupid new bus station that has mucked up the town centre. Any visitors to the town wouldn't have a clue how to get a bus.
Our only saving grace in this town is Giles St which has lots of independent shops.
My area is nice and cared for but the amount of posts I see on Facebook showing how the council hasn't cut the grass or emptied bins is shocking.
The only reason my area is kept nice is because of the park at the end of the road and the amount of events it holds.

Sunnydave is bang on and no doubt espouses the view of many. The problem is that local government everywhere is full of failed idiots who could not get a proper job and busy bodies who love to exercise some power on the rest of us. We should abolish all local government and have the towns/cities/councils run by the professionals. Take my own town, we have 60 councillors all with their snout in the trough, the have a “cabinet” and pay themselves a salary. Councils now are a magnet for the career busybody. What happened to the days when they were voluntary? No wonder the council tax is through the roof.
