seems like the government want a softer line taken on vaping in public....

however, I've straw-polled a number of train companies; without exception they are not in favour of permitting vaping on their trains.

should the train companies be forced to reconsider? should there be a referendum?

I was going to answer, mushroom25, but thought I'd save it for TGT's thread later this afternoon... ;o)

I think the situation should stay as it is at present; no vaping on 'planes, trains and automobiles; confined spaces where others can't escape and there isn't much through-put of air.
I'd like to see a certain amount of relation elsewhere, though.
*relaxation, even...
I agree entirely with JTH but would like to add restaurants into the ban (although covered by the 'cant escape clause'.

Jth has said it for me too.
Most people who change from cigarettes to vapes, then get hooked on those! I don’t want clouds of vanilla, strawberry or whatever flavour they are using blown in my face whether outside or inside!
And there's loads of it. I was watching someone vape outside a pub and couldn't believe how much vape there was.
Unless vapers (vapists?!) are going to get their own carriage, it is a totally selfish idea. I would (if I could) also ban folks from wearing cologne on aeroplanes- I had the misfortune of sharing an 8-hour flight recently with a large Spaniard who appeared to have taken a bath in Polo...! Simple consideration for others would solve it- in carriages or metal tubes, have a shower before you travel, no fags, beer or vaping, if you have to fart repeatedly, do it in the enjoyment of your own company in the loo, and keep egg butties in your bag till you arrive at your destination!
No referendum, it's not a big enough issue; but government needs to get in touch with their constituents' opinion, or get out and let them elect soneone who will.

Personally I don't think the cynical attempt to grab profit, by feeding the same habit type when society was finally realising how anti-social smoking was, should have been legal. Decades putting up with fumers only to find when the tide was turning someone without morals tried to keep folk with their fuming habit but with something different, and unknown as to what the long term affects were.

They need to be smoked out.
these disgusting instruments of pollution should be treated the same as all other forms of smoking, end of.
have you seen the boat on that bloke half way down the link? Like a belisha beacon!
Vaping should be allowed anywhere - that's the whole point of e-cigarettes. The current nonsense of many places including them in the "smoking ban" defeats the whole object of discouraging people from smoking real fags.
What about the exploding ones?
why must we breath in their poison diddly?
Who says it's poison? I would suggest TTT that you inhale more poisonous gases walking down the average street.
the contents are well known.
The whole point of e-cigarettes is simply to make money for those with no care for what their activity does to other fellow human beings who feel the wish/need to use them without care for those around them. It doesn't discourage folk from fuming, merely allows them to continue the same habit via a different method. Has no place in a civilised society.
Zoe Lyons on BBC Radio Scotland's Breaking The News:

'Like being enveloped in one of Willie Wonka's farts'.
This made me laugh, shows how stupid our MPs are. The reason given is that as vapes are not as harmful as cigarettes it should be allowed. This sets a nice precedent.

Coming shortly :-

Burglars stealing only 1 item to be allowed as it's not as harmful as stripping the whole house.

Doing 45mph in 30 zone to be acceptable as it's not as harmful as doing 80.

Paedophilia with 14-year olds to be OK as its not as harmful as with under-10s.

Knife crime - stabbing in the hand OK as it's not as harmful as in the heart.

Serial killers allowed one murder every 10 years because it's not as harmful as one every few months.

I'm sure you all can think of further rule relaxations on "it's not as harmful" grounds.
