Terrible and there seems no end, no one has the backbone to do anything about it.

Khan really needs to step up and push for something to be done.
as he is the Mayor of London he must do more to stem the tide, it may not be easy but someone has to call a halt, beg the government for more money, put more police on the streets and out of their cars, get the parents involved, the buck stops with them, they should know where their kids are going or what they are doing.
It makes very grim statistics.
The mayor can do nothing but chat, he has the trappings of power and most likely a nice pension but that's your lot.

The country is skint after propping up thieves in the banking industry so best not fret, just let them sort it out between themselves and move on.
I don't think more police in the streets will do much as you can't put one on every corner, not that I don't think it a good idea for other reasons though
What is needed is a toughening up by the judiciary.

Totally in agreement with you.

many of these cases are going unsolved. Putting more police in these hotspots might do some good. Not sure what the answer is other than that.
The Mayor of London is responsible for a budget of £17bn which is used, among other things, to run transport, police and fire services, build affordable homes and promote London’s economy. Part of the Council Tax levied by London’s councils is set by the Mayor to help fund these services.

Introduce Dickensian measures, a state of emergency and a strict curfew on youngsters on the streets.
How do you know what it was like in Dickensian times Anotheroldgit?
I fail to understand your problems, after all, we have abolished hanging, abolished corporal punishment, allowed the majority of our oafs into university, accomplished a less violent society and made our streets safer..................what more do you want?

I read books, don't you?
Judging by comments made no I doubt books are read by some aog.
AOG

In these books that you read, were there any descriptions of the crime-ridden metropolitan cities of London, Glasgow, Birmingham and Liverpool?
AOG

I assume you meant to write “Introduce draconian measures”.

‘Dickensian’ literally makes no sense...to any one whose read books.
I imagine that AOG is referring to the punishments handed out to the criminals.
Charles Dickens wasn’t known as a law enforcement agent ...
I’m fact he was a bit of a dangerous liberal on these issues

Then he’s chosen the worst possible period in history.

There’s too much concentration on what’s to be done once the crime has been committed, rather than working to prevent the crime being committed in the first place.

If my smartphone was stolen by a bike gang who were subsequently arrested and jailed, I’d be over the moon.

However, I’d rather not have it stolen in the first place - and designing solutions to that is something that will take decades to resolve.

There are estates up and down the country - from Hastings to Aberdeen, where increasingly, the idea of going out to work to earn your money is simply seen as ‘an option’ rather than ‘the rule’.
SP, I agree entirely with your post at 15:12.
Sp1814, I agree, it's the prevention of crime that should be the object, but that is really impossible isn't it? You mention the mo-ped muggings: How can the police prevent those incidents happening...They can't.
