// Speaking to the BBC this week, her lawyer said she would need to move to a Western country for her own safety. Several countries have offered her asylum.//

…but ….

Pakistan's authorities have struck a deal with a hard-line Islamist party to end the protest over her acquittal ….

As part of the deal, Asia Bibi will be barred from leaving the country, though it is unclear for how long.

The protesters will also be able to file an appeal to the Supreme Court over its decision to release her.

She was convicted in 2010 of insulting the Prophet Muhammad, but was acquitted earlier this week.

Pakistani Information Minister Fawad Chaudhry defended the agreement against allegations the government was capitulating to extremists://

Capitulation to extremists? Clearly. What now for Asia Bibi?

Brainbrig; So you self-define as a 'commie Buddhist'? well, the first bit I can't argue with, but as for the second, your post at 12:24 shows you have some way to go as yet; the third precept of the Noble Eightfold Path is 'Right speech', part of which is defined as, "Do not slander others or speak in a way that causes disharmony or enmity".

If you do not like the way some people feel the need to speak out at intolerable injustice and you have nothing to offer on that topic, then no one is asking you to stay, so it would be best all round if you kept quiet and moved elsewhere.
//they're just ordinary people, acting in a way that they believe their religion requires//

...and the more such "ordinary" people there are living, breeding and in some cases, I presume, working in Europe the happier our societies will be.
(Thos of us who are American might not think much of the third precept on account of its second bit being kind of inconsistent with the First Amendment)

Just to put 14:16 Thu into context^, Ludwig began by saying: //the usual apologist approach is to say that these are terrorists not muslims. They've hijacked and distorted a peaceful message for their own evil purposes.//

He’s right. This behaviour can’t be explained away as terrorist mentality. These are ‘ordinary people’. There is no possible excuse.
none whatsoever ^^^
// There is no possible excuse. //

Which is why the only contribution Bainbrig can think of to make to the thread is to tell everyone to shut up.
Question Author
Indeed.
Glad to see it didn't work.

Question Author
He can hope, Ladybirder. ;o)
What do YOU think about the plight of this poor, desperate woman who is in fear for her very life on a truly ridiculous charge Bainbrig ???
He cares as much as Amnesty International, women's rights movements everywhere and equally as much as Rotherham's child protection services cared about children in need of protection.

Does my answer need further elaboration, HereIam?
// equally as much as Rotherham's child protection services cared about children in need of protection.
//
erm well they ( R'ham) were paid to care as one of their prime duties. A small difference I agree - they should do it for nothing

Anyway Aasia has been let out of Multan ( he cartoon character innit?) but not let out of the country
Question Author
^we know.
//...erm well they ( R'ham) were paid to care as one of their prime duties. A small difference I agree - they should do it for nothing//

You have to envy this partcular poster's ability to find humour in the most unexpected places.
we know now - sorry late afternoon - time for the gormless comments to surface ....
Do you think this skill is God-given, or acquired through hard work?
"Thou art Peter and under this rock..."
we know that too !

no - or yes (since this is AB) - a passerby is not under a duty to clear up Rotherham but the child protection depts were - - -

I think after all the sniping has died down, we agree on the basics
I doubt that.

(The bit about "basics". And the other bit about "agreement")
galloping gormlessness is god given

[and as someone said - god loves his gormless children - that is why he makes so many of them. An archbishop of Canterbury I think]

O god I have just heard - "the Eu is unlikely to agree to a unilateral withdrawal by britain" - R4 1702h
well if it is unilateral - then it has to be without agreement doesnt it?
