// Speaking to the BBC this week, her lawyer said she would need to move to a Western country for her own safety. Several countries have offered her asylum.//

…but ….

Pakistan's authorities have struck a deal with a hard-line Islamist party to end the protest over her acquittal ….

As part of the deal, Asia Bibi will be barred from leaving the country, though it is unclear for how long.

The protesters will also be able to file an appeal to the Supreme Court over its decision to release her.

She was convicted in 2010 of insulting the Prophet Muhammad, but was acquitted earlier this week.

Pakistani Information Minister Fawad Chaudhry defended the agreement against allegations the government was capitulating to extremists://

Capitulation to extremists? Clearly. What now for Asia Bibi?

pp, //sorry late afternoon - time for the gormless comments to surface .... //

Try to resist the urge to put your thoughts into words at this time of day then.
The mobs calling for Asia Bibi’s death are moronic and ill-educated. No right-thinking person would argue.

But what some of us DO question is the apparently exclusive condemnation of the worst Muslim excesses, and the deafening silence over the many other wrongs of the world.

The Israeli treatment of the Palestinians.

The Saudi’s continued public beheadings of (mainly) foreign transgressors.

The British & US continuing to supply offensive military hardware to the Saudis.

The abject failure of the US administration to control their citizens use of guns.

And on, and on.

Yet the only drum beaten here is the anti-Islamic drum.

To the point where we begin to suspect your motives.
bb--The topic being discussed is not about any of the issues that you have mentioned. It is about a woman being persecuted because of a blasphemy law. .I hope that Asia and her family will be given sanctuary in a Western country where she might get some peace and happiness after all the years of suffering that she has endured.
Question Author
bainbrig, when was the last time you initiated a thread on any of that? If that’s what you want to discuss, then do something about it. Don’t expect it to be covered in an unrelated thread.

That said, whilst people do care about the ills of the world, home is closer. To the casual observer it would appear that whilst you are dutifully wringing your hands over world events that none of us can change, you are more than willing to see – and encourage – the disintegration of your own society at the hands of an alien culture. If you expect your left wing philosophy to succeed as a result of its success I advise you to think again. Nothing could be further from the truth.
//Try to resist the urge to put your thoughts into words at this time of day then.// nigh on er gormless comments

oh dear Nigh have we deeply thought about taking our own advice?

BB points out that anti islamic sentiment is a mono-theme on this site. and then he makes a case for it - new idea - new facts
S/o points out that he COULD be right but the argument is in the WRONG place. o god (*)

so much for deep thought
meanwhile Aasia over whom we also have no control looks as tho she is absolutely stuffed
as Nigh might say - we know dat!

(*) there is an amusing scene in Ther Office where the chmn of a meeting refuses to take points because they havent been put on the agenda, and then sticks fingers in his ears and says "la-la-la I cant hear you"

PP, you're not a morning person then either. Oh well ...
Peter. I do like the word gormless; so appropriate, so descriptive...

bainbrig, and there you have it. Joining that other man behind the curtain, that's the best you can do.

Naomi bb is obviously too busy having a dig at you rather than start a post on one of the subjects he mentioned @ 21.39 last night. Pity some people would rather spoil yours.
The latest I have read is that an Appeal has been launched to get the latest verdict quashed. To lose your life for touching a drinking vessel - can't get my head around that. And all done out of spite.
Perhaps the hard-of-seeing would like a reminder of the first line of my apparently contentious post.

“The mobs calling for Asia Bibi’s death are moronic and ill-educated. No right-thinking person would argue. “

Geddit? I’m AGREEING with the thrust of the ‘question’.

Old Chinese proverb: when on a hook, stop wriggling.
Question Author
No one, except you, is on a hook, bainbrig. Where are your threads dealing with the things you complain that no one is talking about?

//UK 'Won't Offer Asylum To Asia Bibi Amid Security Concerns'

The British Pakistani Christian Association said UK government is concerned about "unrest among certain sections of the community."//

I don't know how accurate this is. //The Home Office said it could not comment on individual cases.//
Disgusting and embarrassing if true, naomi.

Another victory for the islamists.
Question Author
My thoughts precisely, Talbot.
What a disgraceful decision, if true. And the reason for it more so.
Have things deteriorated here that much since we welcomed Malala Yousafzai with open arms?
Asia Bibi would not be safe in Britain because a large percentage of British Muslims (most of them of Pakistani origin) would like to see her dead. And quite a few who would be lining up to do it.
Question Author
It shouldn’t come as a surprise. A week or so back the ECHR blatantly abdicated its moral duty by capitulating to Austria’s trumped up ruling on blasphemy for precisely the same reason. Cowardly capitulation seems to be the name of the game – and not only in Pakistan.
I know that v_e but surely that applies to the other countries who have actually offered her refuge?
she is not safe anywhere, or perhaps America where she could blend in, but they have a tough stance on immigration.
//British Muslims (most of them of Pakistani origin) would like to see her dead. And quite a few who would be lining up to do it.//

Indeed! and the reason? - in the eyes of the warped Islamic mentality, murdering a Christian for being a Christian would, it is believed, clear your slate for passed regressions and give you a sure-fire entry to paradise by Allah, neatly avoiding eternal hell.

Worth a shot ?
