Asia Bibi: Deal To End Pakistan Protests Over Blasphemy Case
// Speaking to the BBC this week, her lawyer said she would need to move to a Western country for her own safety. Several countries have offered her asylum.//
…but ….
Pakistan's authorities have struck a deal with a hard-line Islamist party to end the protest over her acquittal ….
As part of the deal, Asia Bibi will be barred from leaving the country, though it is unclear for how long.
The protesters will also be able to file an appeal to the Supreme Court over its decision to release her.
She was convicted in 2010 of insulting the Prophet Muhammad, but was acquitted earlier this week.
Pakistani Information Minister Fawad Chaudhry defended the agreement against allegations the government was capitulating to extremists://

Capitulation to extremists? Clearly. What now for Asia Bibi?

"There will be a war if they send Asia out of country," said Cleric Khadim Hussain Rizvi, who leads the Islamist Tehreek-e-Labbaik (TLP) party. War with whom? The country that gives her asylum – or civil war? I’m beginning to think that if they decide to blow each other and their corrupt government to smithereens that won’t be such a bad thing. Madmen.
I think the safest place for her on the planet would be Israel, though if they would offer her a safe haven I don't know, but a Jewish writer says;
'For Western liberals who find any criticism of Islam “Islamophobic,” the sheer amount of vitriolic content of more than a millennium of Western writings on Muhammad may beggar belief.'
There is a very long history of people saying exactly what Asia Bibi said, you can read quotes on here;

Actually the more I think about it the better the idea. I wasn't sure about Christianity in Israel so I just checked it out and it's interestingly 2% of the population;

n. A good point, but I don't think they are the knuckle-dragging belligerent Muslims found elsewhere ( have you ever heard of any inter-religious murders within Israel?
In fact the Israeli Muslims sound pro-Israel;

// There are a few people generally pretty vocal in their defence of Islam conspicuous by their absence on this thread. I wonder what they're thinking? //
As I said elsewhere, the usual apologist approach is to say that these are terrorists not muslims. They've hijacked and distorted a peaceful message for their own evil purposes.
Of course, that can't be said in this case, because these are not terrorists, they're just ordinary people, acting in a way that they believe their religion requires. Not so easy to dismiss.
