bainbrig, you should apologise to emmie for calling her a liar, however you have proved your point about people coming here not wishing to debate. here's your first contribution to this thread. "Diddly. The proportion is about 80% who don’t give a $h1t, 20% like you (and me) who do. I find it easiest to let the miseries have the run of threads like these, as you...

//so anyone who lands on our shores with no paperwork get a free ride, surely there must be a way of controlling this wave of illegal migrants//
Easy Emmie. The Home Office just has to announce that all illegal immigrants are to be trained to conduct the fracking process and to operate the equipment. The protesters would be blocking the coastline 24/7 and driving them back out to sea like good uns.

We are still waiting for a response from you and bainbrig, we will ask you again:
How many migrants, refugees, asylum-seekers. etc are you taking in, sponsoring, adopting, paying for, supporting, or caring for?

Vetuste. Thanks for the invitation, but no, I won’t.
Because I suspect our general world views differ far further back, and to discuss topics like immigration would not be useful.
I for example believe in the plurality of mankind, and if in the short term that means inequalities in different countries (some contributing more to humanity, some less), that’s something I can live with. Agreement on that basic level would have to precede our talking about immigration to the UK.
So, with respect, I’ll not get entangled.

It's frankly irrelevant how many immigrants diddly et al have or have not taken in, since, even in the most generous assumption about their wealth and available resources, the answer is likely to be no more than five when there are many thousands of people looking for help. So what's being called for is a country-wide solution.
But even that's not really the point. What really will change things is working to make the lives of people better before they want to leave, rather than after they get here. Turning them away, or shooting them down, won't work very well either.

What are you suggesting, that the UK gets involved into how other counties leaders support their own citizens, thus making their lives so bearable that they do not wish to seek a better life in foreign climes?
If so who is going to foot the bill?
