the subject of drones has been aired before in this forum, with the majority consensus being that the authorities should stop being drama queens, grow some and let drone flyers get on with managing their own affairs.

so would it be fair to say that AB consider Gatwick Airport to have "over reacted" last night?

Apparently the MoD have only just been approached by Plod in asking for assistance.
Not bad for the UK, some 20+ hours in!
I think we're suffering from the same mentality that takes UK Plod 10 hours to clear a motorway crash that the French Gendarmerie would take 15 minutes over.

Can anyone believe that CdG would have been closed for this long?
Will those responsible be charged with the financial burden of this mess? Will they be imprisoned for wasting time not only of the police.. But now of the ministry of defence?

Why has no one got a counter drone up to battle it down! #DroneWars
The idea that we could "manage" a hard Brexit slips further and further away. We can't manage something as predictable and contained as a drone. I doubt we could manage a ssip-up in a brewery.
hehehehehehehehe
Hmmm....if terrorism has been ruled out, what then? The eco loons?
Plane Stupid? Extinction Rebellion? Earth First? Did not a Black Lives Matter protest shut down London Airport not long ago? Maybe an Anti-Fracking group or Greens making a protest about the Carbon wing print. Bless.
Probably someone who is bored and thinks it's funny doing it
They under reacted, the first one should have been shot down at first sight.
All airports have 'exclusion zones' where flying any type of model / drone / toy aircraft is forbidden . Gatwick did what it had to do.
There are confirmed instances of model /drone/toy aircraft being sucked into the air intake of an aircraft and causing an emergency landing or even a crash. I think the 'exclusion zone' is a 5 mile radius.
Trackers can be fitted in cars. Can't similar devices (transmitters) be fitted in drones at the place of manufacture? If a drone transmitted an identification signal, the police could pick it up and do the necessary tracing of the owner.
It's no good making rules and expecting people to abide by them. These are very naughty people who will remove such things as tracking devices or, even easier, use old machines which don't have them.
Wouldn't rule out a false flag operation either. More project fear to show the "people" what is possible with a no deal resolution. Not many pictures of this/these drones to be seen.
Some people spend so long droning on about Project Fear that they find themselves doing it ...
well, I've never seen Togo and this drone in the same room together, Ellipsis, make of that what you will.
Five years in jail isn't enough for the scumbags who are doing this. All of those little kids who were going to Lapland to see Father Christmas, all of the passengers who were travelling to be with their loved ones for Christmas and are now sleeping on an airport floor and all of the crews who have had their Christmas scuppered. The sad person who is doing this should be strung up
BBC latest says the runways are now open.
Indeed. But they've also said they have not been able to locate the drone or its pilot...

Why are they reopening if they haven't located it? Presumably they figure it must be out of power by now or something.

As it’s no longer a cause to close the runway I guess they want to crack on and get flights going, leave the rest to Plod/CAA.
If nothing else it's exposed those in charge of our lives as pretty much impotent unless we're all lined up with out liquids in a clear plastic bag, shffling forward at the behest of some bored but officious drone of their own.

A shameful exhibition of uselessness and inaction.
