Quoting old passages merely show what things used to be like. Deeds and actions today show what things are now.

Agreed, but as far as I know, no-one else is citing the fact that their religion is one of peace as a specific reason to be granted asylum.
I wouldn't be surprised if this was fake news, as Douglas suggests. I tend not to believe anything from a single uncorroborated source, especially if that source is the Mail.

..but actually, in answer to the question, I don't think they're right to use extracts from the bible or any other religious tome as part of their decision making process.
It's a serious business, and religion scribblings from 2000+ years ago shouldn't really play any part in it.
If it's true, it's a bizarre thing to do, whether the point they're making is factually correct or not. Fine for debating on Answerbank, but not for the Govt to make decisions about people's lives.
