You seem to have confused the 'real world' with Utopia, spath.

*All* laws, everywhere, developed from some sort of religious basis. In the West we are (in the main) fortunate enough to be jettisoning those based on religious teachings in favour of those based on a more humane and humanist rationale.

Thos countries embracing Islam, already have their laws written for them......they are to be found in the Koran and are implemented as Sharia Law; there can be no deviation.
Although, some Islamic countries choose not to implement them as robustly as others.
Question Author
"It has already been applied in certain areas of the UK"

No it hasn't.
Question Author
Here you go, retro:

"British law is absolute and must remain so." An e-petition to the UK government to prohibit and criminalise sharia courts received over 15,000 signatures. The government issued a response, stating that sharia rulings are only permitted if legal under UK law."

So good luck prosecuting me for any crime under sharia law. I will laugh you out the door.
Oh yes it has Spath.

Supposedly it cannot override UK law but tell that to the Muslims caught up in it, particularly women in divorce.

Nasty evil religion.
Question Author
why are people just lying, no it has not. It has no legal foundation.
Question Author
"Supposedly it cannot override UK"

No supposedly about it.
No-one is lying, spath.
There are Muslim communities who will take 'some' of their legal issues to the Imams/elders to have them rule on the matter using 'Sharia Law'. In these communities, the Sharia ruling will be followed rather than any that might have been given in a 'British' court.

Similarly, Jewish matters can be and are settled in Beth Din Courts.
Question Author
Well what that article means is.. The same law "falls under British matrimonial law"

So no, sharia law is not recognised. But British matrimonial law is.
Question Author
"The case will have significant implications for women who marry under sharia law but not UK law and could give them the right to divorce their husbands and split the assets related to the union, as well as securing a divorce more easily."

Seems quite the opposite. Would sharia law allow this??? I suspect not.

Please take time to watch this short video. It shows the 'Muslim Patrols' intimidting people for the way they dress and the fact they are carrying alcohol in 'their' Sharia area of London.
Illegal? Yes
Does it still go on? Yes
Is that fact? Yes

You can laugh at me all you like spath. I won't be running anyone in and I certainly won't be disturbing you in your sleepy little village where nothing ever happens including meaningful work.

jack-the-hat

/// Thos countries embracing Islam, already have their laws written for them......they are to be found in the Koran and are implemented as Sharia Law; there can be no deviation. ///

What I would like to ask is, do our Islamic followers instantly change their ways as soon as they become British citizens or are those who don't automatically referred to as 'Radical Muslims'?
Question Author
Not sure that has anything to do with anything but the topic "Muslims"

"intimidting people for the way they dress and the fact they are carrying alcohol in 'their' Sharia area of London.""

Illegal - yes

Well there we go then.

Question Author
The better question AOG is:

Do all Muslims consider "their ways" as the same as their brothers and sisters? Or do some people get the wrong end of the stick.

//Well there we go then. //
Yes and thereby it still goes illegal or not. You could of been one of those people innocently walking down Stepney High Street.Don't tell me it will Never happen to you.
The point of this OP is what goes on in the Sultanate of Brunei which according to their laws is acceptable and nothing we debate here will stop that evil law over there or any other Muslim country.
Unless of course you wanna join up and wage a war on Islam cos the UN won't stop it.
Question Author
If it goes, and then if it has any official, legal standing, or if it will ever apply to me in the UK are very separate things.
The Cox report is four years old. Nothing has yet been done about it. Nothing is ever likely to be done about it.
Brunei reconises the most extreme form of Islam. This says that Homesexuality is one of ''The crimes that can never be forgiven '' the only penalty of such a crime is death ! Further more the death penalty has to be by 'Stoning to Death in Public' at Noon on a Friday !
Question Author
JTH, elders of a religion recognising sharia law and having private trials is not the same as the UK acknowledging and following these laws and applying them in court cases. They are not laws that apply to the every day British public at all. That's my point. I've no doubt sharia law is honoured by some in the UK under the carpet.
