Different Governments spath, FYI Notre Dame is in France
The difference? One of the buildings contained things of perceived value and the other building contained people who had no value to the government.

Totally wrong. Regardless of the contents, Notre Dame is literally the heart of the nation, the centre of its soul. It is the virtual/actual epicentre of Paris. It’s the spiritual symbol of the French nation, 850 years of Parisian history and means so much to Christians, Catholic’s and even atheists.
To make a comparison to Grenfell is crass and silly, but then if you’d seen it up close you’d realise that.
spat; //Grenfell Tower fire 72 people perished and the 223 people that survived spent over 12 months with no permanent accommodation and for many they have still not received the mental and financial support they need to recover from the fire.//

This is absolutely untrue, everyone was rehoused, apartments were bought on the open market at Kensington and Chelsea prices, some costing a million pounds. Money was poured onto the victims, even the bogus ones.

If you want the facts, the whole facts and nothing but the facts you should read this;
https://www.lrb.co.uk/v40/n11/andrew-ohagan/the-tower

It's a very big read - the whole edition was devoted to it. Journalism of the highest standard
ChillDoubt, //if you’d seen it up close you’d realise that. //

I doubt he would...
For anyone interested in doing so you can make donations via this site. I’ve just done so:

Khandro, don't confuse him with facts, he couldn't cope FGS.
still 19 households from Grenfell in temporary accommodation - one woman who has a wheelchair can't get into the bathroom they've given her. Two years on and Kensington still hasn't sorted it.

jno, As baldric said, different governments. Notre Dame is in France.
Effingwhatever.....if St Paul's went up, spath, what would be the reaction of we Brits?....remember AOG and TTT and all their genre/generation and what St P meant during their epitome of history, i.e. WW2. We, as the UK, would be in contributing en masse. Grenfell, tragic that this was, is not a national icon, St Paul's is - plain and simple - and as is Notre Dame pour les francais.

Thanks Chill for the link - I would have loved to find an appt. on Ile St Louis when I lived there.
// To make a comparison to Grenfell is crass and silly, but then if you’d seen it up close you’d realise that.//

nice to see no one has read the wiki bit on Laicite
and the botching and back biting has hardly ceased

There is separation of Church and State ( in France that is!) according to the loi de 1905. yeah laicite again
and so .....
the buildings belong to the state ( erk? what was that?) which can be maintained by the state
and the people ( peeps, to ABers, are religious organisations which the state cannot support ). This model is followed in francophone countries ( = gondree that spik fransh)

Grenfell you may recall was disgracefully hived off by the council to a holding organisation and both parties said - "nothing to do with us gov". You will also reccollect that the council offices were stormed by outraged citizens on Fri afternoon when they tried to put the shutters up and go home leaving the burnt-out householders on the street.

it is a better contrast than Retro's Oradour sur Glane ( which I agree is in France)

notwithstanding the above ( = long word for 'but')
President Macron has the power alone of any head of state to - - -
appoint certain Catholic bishops.
Yeah I know
// Notre Dame pour les francais. //
too much French !

oh so when Windsor went up in flames - the home of our head of state - we all queued up to contribute our thruppences for furry wall paper

I really dont remember that at all - did it really occur ?
// To make a comparison to Grenfell is crass and silly, but then if you’d seen it up close you’d realise that.//

nice to see no one has read the wiki bit

Absolutely no idea what you’re alluding to, but then I never do because I don’t continually chide and scorn other ABers by attempting to pass myself off as some supposed pseudo-intellectual with poor grammar and punctuation.
Whilst Bert the Threadkiller persists with his inane ramblings I’ll call time on my participation in the thread.
You’re welcome DTC, least I could do.
naomi, I'm aware they're in different countries. The comparison is precisely between the ways different countries handle things.
no idea what you are alluding to
wiki

wiki is a internet encyclopedia
and has an article on separation of church and state in France
here
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/La%C3%AFcit%C3%A9

yes chilldo it is rocket science

as for thread killer - 192 replies
clearly my thread killing abilities are off tonight
oh lordy lordy
let the posts at least make sense - sweet jesus
// naomi, I'm aware they're in different countries.//
yes yes to be fair to Nigh
she (Ni) has said she knows Notre Dame is in france (somewhere)

erm not a great French speaker tho I believe

The French state has pledged to rebuild
and now accepts it owns the building
and says it is relying on handouts from peole like - - us
Sad thing is, Kaleidoscope boy and the like really do not have any idea of the cultural significance of Notre Dame and other like sites. Our Christian heritage, complete with it's sometimes violent history, mean little to them. Not instant enough you see. Gotta be new and theirs. Must be shallow, because deep requires understanding and thought on a level that has been coached out of them so as to make them more malleable. If there is any glimmer of hope in the burning of the cathedral perhaps it will be the awakening amongst the indigenous people of France, and to some extent the rest of political Europe, the realisation of just what their heritage means to them. Perhaps it will persuade them to look anew at what is being done to their ancestral lands in the name of globalism and forced, and ultimately false, inclusivity. The word crass was designed for just such a comparison as K Boy's likening of Notre Dame to Grenville Tower block. But don't blame him...….he believes it valid. Blame the people who allowed the teaching of such an insidious and destructive mind set.
As an aside, I really do not understand why the person who took this snap-shot thinks that is of great significance and why the 'story' is going 'viral'.
P.P. //Grenfell you may recall was disgracefully hived off by the council to a holding organisation and both parties said - "nothing to do with us gov". //

That is outrageously untrue, from where do you glean such lies? Read the account in the LRB which I quoted a link to above (17:23) It may take several hours though.

If you are unsure of the truth, I suggest you keep quiet.
// That is outrageously untrue,//
Grenfell - this is outrageously true !

within seven days the council held a secret meeting whose main agenda item was - that the council are going to get an absolute media hiding so how could they spend council money to mitigate it ?

and yes the council did try to go home on Fri pm
and leave the homeless still on the streets

Khandy - are you in London or Timbuctoo ? I thought you were resident in germany
Jno, //The comparison is precisely between the ways different countries handle things.//

Not appropriate on this thread in my opinion – although if you must emulate Spath, carry on.

PP, //(Ni) ...erm not a great French speaker tho I believe//

Unlike much of what you spout I know you didn’t get that from google. Why do you believe that?
