I've said many times how many young boys have their genitalia mutilated. I usually bring up this fact during discussions about Female Genitalia Mutilation and people suppress the fact it happens to males. yes it may be in better conditions and circumstances, but it still happens.

Circumcision is normalised. Should it be?

Foreskin helps with sexual pleasure that's a fact so if that's the intention or not, it has the same affect.

That must have been a long time ago, MWG. Around 20% of Australian babies are circumcised these days, compared to 80% in the 1950s

Another advantage of the circumcised male is that he is less prone to premature ejaculation, which surely must be an advantage.

Spath, as I have experienced sex in both states I can honestly say that sex is much better for me after the operation.

spath...yes it is....the circumcised head of penis (glans) is less sensitive to the antics of foreplay whereas the uncircumcised penis is less sensitive and the covering of the glans is thicker.

HC the only reason i say that is because Studies show the forskin is more sensitive than the penis glans. This has indications.

However studies on if it's more or less pleasurable are easily flawed and hard to do

What is done to females is without doubt mutilation in the true meaning of the word - it has no benefits to the women nor anybody else but it's a bit emotive to describe circumcision as mutilation?
Circumcision is usually carried out in a professional medical way and has health benefits - it's my understanding that HPV is considered the cause of most cervical cancers and that virus can nestle nicely in folds of the foreskin. They are also more attractive (to me) - but that is a shallow and very personal opinion.

while I agree that there is a difference in degree, I class circumcision and ear piercing along wth FGM in the things that should not be done to children at all or to anyone without their consent....I agree that medical need is a reasonable exception.

Spath, he may well have taken his own life had he not had the op because of the problems he was experiencing during sex. We don't know.

The letter he left to his mum indicated it was due to being "mutilated"

Circumcision would resolve his issues in the bedroom giving him some relief surely?

HC a main issue was with the urologist. He seems like he botched alex and caused him many problems with his circumcision.

Regardless of the level of surgery it is still a primitive practice to chop off parts of the human body for culture reasons rather than genuine medical ones. Practiced by backward countries and backward religions, the world should go get more enlightened.

this case was a real outlier. It was done to an adult, it seems to have been done by a poor surgeon, and it was done at the victim's own request.

You can't draw any universal conclusions from such cases. Operations do go wrong, but that shouldn't be grounds for banning all operations: most male circumcisions go just fine. The rationale for doing them isn't the same as for FGM: this man wanted it done in part to improve sexal pleasure; FGM is done for exactly the opposite reason.

No he didn't. He had a medical problem he needed fixing. "Phimosis does not always cause problems, but if it does, problems can include difficulty urinating and pain during sex." But discovered the redult was unbearable to him.
