// Do you have to really care about history, the monarchs and St george to be English?//

St George - - - english - you mean St George of Cappadocia ?
as any ABer - AOG Ni Baldric might holler - johnny Brexit, Tarmy (Robinson of course, sillly!) et al ....(oops sorry Nigh)
"where in England Cappadocia den?" [ where dat den?]

hey oh come on - I dont really mind
this is after all - - AB in full brexit swing !
He certainly is now, spath...
Who was king edward the 3rd to know anything anyhow? Guys a war warmonger
PP, another pile of gibberish. How do you expect to ever be taken seriously.
No he didn't come to England and was adopted as the English Patron Saint for reasons shown by King Edward 111
Spath, stop trying to derail the thread.
ST George, the brave dragon slayer, to lead and protect England, when he's never even seen it. How Proud that makes me. I best buy a stella, get a copy of the sun, me flag out from the garage from 2005 and i'll try not to forget me deck chair.. might take me a few years to get fat and bold, but then at least i'll be the epitome of a proud englishman.
I pipped you at the post ag I mentioned St George’s day yesterday so there, ya boo sucks....England my England what has become of thee. I can trace my ancestry back till 815, or is it a quarter to nine?
King Edward probably had some corrupt political, war style motive. All reasons i won't blindly be proud due to this man. I see no reason why we 'celebrate' these things in the modern age. What relevance do they have. Christian culture shaping our social norms? I'd rather it not.
Fat, bald, Stella drinker Spath? You do yourself proud.
David, with a "the sun" newspaper
// PP, another pile of gibberish. How do you expect to ever be taken seriously.//

nope sorry - it is St george of Cappadocia
who is not english but is ..... surprise surprise danny cappadocian.

dear dear - where were you when they did this in primary skool?

(wishes to be taken seriously on a thread about St george of C and whether he is one or not - - did Danny really write that?)
oh well it is AB !
Spath, the more you become involved in a thread the more, in my imagination, you take on the attributes of a demented octopus. You flail, windmill, and strike blindly and incoherently at anything that comes your way.
well we all have different perceptions, perspective and thoughts, sanmac. If i told you all mien there wouldn't be much room on AB for anything else.

Maybe you should get a diary for all these pointless thoughts?

Instead of "Spath" start it.. "Dear Diary"
Being Irish I’m slightly envious of St George’s Day. St Patrick’s Day has got a little silly over the years. Commercialised and IMO spoiled by the daft drinks promotions and greetings cards etc etc.
St George’s Day on the other hand is just about right: rescued largely from the BNP and the NF, in recent years. Slightly understated but nonetheless dignified:-)

On the other hand we don’t have the sort of ridiculous sparring that goes on above as a rule. It still isn’t quite as fashionable as it ought to be to be proud of being English.
If the Irish (and half the rest of the world it seems) need a hangover cure for St Patrick’s Day then maybe the English need a psychiatrist.
I am unsure why you are trying to make the thread controversial, spath. Will be interested to see if you do the same on other Saints' days.
Runs around like an excited puppy making messes for others to sort out. :-)
I think he just needs a little self-respect and self-esteem, retro.

I am neither fat or bald and am not a Sun reader, merely an Englishman who is proud of his heritage.
