If you break into someone's house armed with a screwdriver and they pick up a knife, you're probably in danger of getting stabbed. Personally I minimise the risk of getting into a situation like that by not breaking into people's houses.

when I discovered a burglar in my house, I ran out & phoned my OH at work. My kids were in school. My dog chased the burglar out. Police arrived next day (OH called them on the burglary day) & said no fingerprints coz of wood furniture & fittings :/ & confirmed burglar's entrance thru open window. No lives lost & 2 cheap watches stolen - burglar was 20ish.
In my area the horses are rounded up by the council and taken away for sale, adoption or sent to the knackers yard if the owners don't come forward to claim them and pay a hefty fine. We used to have a real problem of fly grazing not just in local parks and open spaces but on verges next to very busy roads and outside a very large hospital. They caused traffic accidents and even injured passers by.
Since this policy was brought in the problem has very nearly disappeared.

Calico - // No andy I'm really sorry but you're not in a position with the greatest respect to tell me how I would feel about something and I can assure you that I would be unaffected. I'd appreciate it if you'd have the courtesy to take my word for that because I find it slightly patronising that anyone else thinks they can speak for me better than I myself can. Thanks. //
Absolutely no need to apologise for holding, and stating your view.
I am of course happy to accept that your view is your own, and we differ, and if I implied any disrespect in my post, it was not intentional, and I am happy to offer my apologies for any offence caused.

gness - // Andy....I can think and I can feel....but I'm not self righteous. //
It was never my intention to include you in the Self-Righteous Brothers - I think I know you better than to think you belong with them!
We agree on many things, and on this occasion we do not, but of course, we each have equal respect for the views of the other - of such attitudes is mature debate conducted.
