My view is that in terms of nonsensical gossip - which is everything written about the Royal Family - the media partly dictates the world view, and then panders to it.
Witness the volte face from all the fawning and adulation that the media rained down on Ms Markel when she first appeared, and compare it with the poisonous vitriol that is the tone of anything written about her now.
In real terms, the Duchess and her husband are living their lives, and probably amused at the dreadful profiles foisted on them by a nasty media, which probably bear no relation to what they are like in the slightest.
I always remember Victoria Beckham saying that if she was the person the media portray her to be, she would loathe herself as well, in the way the public and media seem t do, but she is happy knowing that she is not.

As you and I remember, times were very different back then, and pressure from The Firm was far more likely to be acted on then that it is now.
There may have been backstage pressure on Harry not to marry Ms. Markle, but clearly he is enough his mother's son to see that being happy in private is more important that providing an image in public.
