god I admire them so much
not that much that I want to fly out and assist....

lads such as Joshua Wong know they are identifiable and could face years in a concentration camp ( see Uighurs, oop north ( of China).

Heros all of them, fighting for democracy.
I fear Chinese troops will soon be on the scene and do whatever it takes to crush these freedom fighters.
The body count will be shocking.
I agree its frightening....can only see this going one way.
they have to hang together as God knows, they will hang separately

I salute them - presumably they are saying that it is their future and that therefore it is worth fighting for

I'm with you Woof . They've already tried sending in the
Infamous Triads
Anyone who can leave should.

Indeed. The people of Hong Kong seem to have overlooked the fact that they live in China. Cutting up rough in the way that they have will end in tears (as it would and indeed has elsewhere in China).
I'm afraid this is not going to end well. Who can blame them for trying to hold on to the scant vestiges of a democratic society they have left: once the authorities are allowed to take suspects to mainland China for 'questioning', they know perfectly well they may never be seen again.
I've been holding my breath watching this happening. Gosh they're brave. I fear for them.
Another example of everyone rubbing along nicely when it was a British Protectorate or dare I say 'Colony'. Well the army is massing ,as we speak on the border, and I fear a massacre will be the result.
So frightened for them.

Yes, I see that, but what an extraordinary post. Is this fight-back: anything you can do, etc? Are we seeing a terrestrial abduction? And will there be more to follow? And will they remember anything about there previous lives?

So many questions, so little time...
Oh dear - ought I say their?
I've no doubt China will send in the troops, they won't/don't give a fig about the opinion of any government in decrying them if they do send in the troops.
China views them as terrorists, the 'West' calls them protestors.

Part of me wonders if there are diplomatic chats going on behind the scenes asking China to deal with HK with a cool head.
Was in Hong Kong a couple of years before it was handed back to China. Even then they were worried about the future consequenses.
A lovely man there told us as in a jokey way that at least they could take a shower and wash their hair in safety, (Meaning there would be a risk of brainwashing in time)
Lovely Place and lovely people. Wanted to go back , then but not now.
Good luck to them. But I fear they are fighting a losing battle.
I`m with the protestors all the way but I fear it's going to get even nastier. Even people who want to leave have problems getting through the airport (when it's actually open)
Our shop manager and his partner are supposed to be going to Hong Kong in a few weeks to visit the partner's gran who is ancient and they want to visit whilst she is still alive.

Doesn't look good.
I guess it’s far enough away for the EU not to get the blame for stirring things ...

It's enough that Chine wants dissenters 'tried' in China, no doubt never to be seen again ?
// I guess it’s far enough away for the EU not to get the blame for stirring things ...//

That is certainly true, but such things are happening much closer & we say nothing, such as the outrageous arrests and imprisonment (for life!) of dissenters; writers & intellectuals in the monstrous regime of Erdogan's Turkey who haven't rioted, but simply voiced their views in articles & books.
