Should She Be Sacked?

Khafi Kareem ,a Met police officer asked for leave to go to Nigeria ( to take part in their version of Big Brither ) her request was turned down but she went anyway, whilst there she had sex with another housemate live on TV
My opinion, Yes she should be sacked,if you ask your employer for time off and you take it anyway , isn't that gross misconduct ?

andres....I am not sure about rthe "obviously" I think the Met may THINK she has....I suspect that the bit that they are thinking of is the bit that says something like "behaviour unbecoming to....." or "behaviour likely to bring into disrepute" but for either of those to stick, usually the person has to be at work, or representing themselves as being at work or representing themselves as representing (speaking or behaving on behalf of) their employer. So far as I can see she was doing none of those things. If she lied about why she wanted the leave then that may be an issue but not a professional standards one. It may be that she did ask permission to go on the show...was told no by someone who didn't check the book of words on the matter....checked the book of words herself and found that she did not need permission.....but that wouldn't be such a good story.

Is this really that serious? No.

I think having sex is NOT reason to indicate she's unfit to be a police officer. Also, doing what she did shows Honesty and integrity.

it tends to be a rule that people do need to explain why they want to take extended leave..they don't have to but they are less likely to be granted it if they don't explain why, especially if it inconveiences other staff.

Whether on or off duty ,police officers have not to behave in a manner that is likely to bring discredit onto the police force .Or words to that effect.

How can you not be being honest when it's for all to see? Integrity by keeping under the covers. Also integrity to herself. She decided to do this as a diverse woman and I think fair play.

I'm not sure why people are obsessing about the fact she had sex on the program. That's only a minor aspect of it. The main problems are as follows..

1) She asked permission to do something, was refused it, but did it anyway.
2) She obviously lied to them about the reason she wanted an extended leave period. Probably some fictitious family crisis back in Nigeria was concocted.

Anything that happened on the show is just the icing on the cake.

I can't see how there is disrepute anyway, nothing illegal. And as everyone, including the police agrees that she is not representing them, it can't do them any harm. They are associating themselves with it, if they sack her.

As said, it really depends on the organisation/company policy. If permission has to be obtained and was refused then she should be sacked.

But she is representing them. Especially if she has been waving parts of her uniform about. That's the point of uniform - it/the wearer represents the company. The police are distancing themselves from the situation by saying she doesn`t represent them.

She shouldn't be wearing her uniform if off duty, I agree. Whether it is sackable though, I'm not sure.
