I liked the last sentence.

The irony claxon is deafening Webbs
I hope that they're going to purchase a lot of Carbon Credits to offset the amount produced by their helicopter rescue !

// The passengers were safely evacuated by helicopter //

How much pollution did the chopper cause, they got themselves into it
I'm sure I've seen this referred to here elsewhere. Meanwhile, amusing though it is, long term ice reduction doesn't imply never getting stuck in the ice still around.
Now THAT'S a climate emergency.
I posted this on Monday Webbo, on another thread. It works here too.

"Oh Dear. You would need a heart of stone not to laugh....so I laughed. The jolly for the doomsayers got it all wrong again dad. The boat trip to film and bring to attention to the Whirled, all the way to Longyearbyen and all the carbon foolprints that go with it failed to go to plan. Apparently the SS Malmo that had film crew and a documentary team aboard who were to "reveal" the extent of the rampant Glow Bulls got stuck in the fast forming ice and had to be winched to safety thereby burning up even more precious energy resources that are fast diminishing. Thing is this is the 6th.......yes 6th attempt that has fallen foul of the ice that they are trying not to film to show us how fast it is disappearing.
//The reporter, Erofey Schkvarkin clearly has a sense of humour. He adds: "Something is very wrong with Arctic ice, instead of melting as ordered by UN/IPCC, it captured the ship with Climate Change Warriors." //

This is a tweet from Reuters......... AFTER the ship got stuck.(Togo edit)
""The town of Longyearbyen, Norway, is the northernmost — and the fastest-warming — town in the world, where glaciers melt, coffins rise from permafrost and avalanches sweep away houses. More dispatches from a climate-change frontier:""

Haha all gone quiet there though now."

PS I have a picture somewhere of Longyearbyen, without a speck of snow or ice in sight or on the mountains above. Taken in 1908 before the Glow Bulls escaped.
how is this ship powered?
KPRC Radio, in Texas USA.

I wonder if they produce anything in Texas that might contribute to Global Warming ?
Which might actually colour their objectivity on the issue.
they make a lot of wine gromit, does that count?

This sounded like a news story that is too good to be true. So I tried to fact check it.

And it isn’t true unfortunately.

The ship in question is the MS Malmo, a small cruise ship specialising in Artic sailings. On the day in question it had been hired by Vega Expeditions, a tourism company, and it was marketed to wildlife photographers and film makers.

The ship did indeed get stuck in the ice, and the evacuation was reported by the Norwegian coast guard as a precautionary measure. The incident was reported in several maritime news sites.

https://www.cruiseindustrynews.com/cruise-news/21460-passengers-airlifted-in-svalbard-as-ship-is-stuck-in-ice.html

All fairly mundane stuff.
But then the story was picked up by a website called Maritime Bulletin, a news aggregation site run by Russians, based in occupied Crimea. They decided the tourists were Eco Warriors, without producing any evidence.

https://maritimebulletin.net/2019/09/04/ship-with-climate-change-warriors-caught-in-ice-warriors-evacuated

Then the story went viral being picked up by the anti global warming groups associated with right wing politics. And it ends up on the Answerbank.

""Arctic tours ship MS MALMO with 16 passengers on board got stuck in ice on Sep 3 off Longyearbyen, Svalbard Archipelago, halfway between Norway and North Pole. The ship is on Arctic tour with Climate Change documentary film team, and tourists, concerned with Climate Change and melting Arctic ice.""

Note who had charted the ship......Climate Change documentary film team.....Who were to film evidence of melting Arctic ice. Which duly refused to melt. Haha. Keep spinning the plates are falling off the sticks.
