This sounded like a news story that is too good to be true. So I tried to fact check it.
And it isn’t true unfortunately.
The ship in question is the MS Malmo, a small cruise ship specialising in Artic sailings. On the day in question it had been hired by Vega Expeditions, a tourism company, and it was marketed to wildlife photographers and film makers.

The ship did indeed get stuck in the ice, and the evacuation was reported by the Norwegian coast guard as a precautionary measure. The incident was reported in several maritime news sites.

All fairly mundane stuff.
But then the story was picked up by a website called Maritime Bulletin, a news aggregation site run by Russians, based in occupied Crimea. They decided the tourists were Eco Warriors, without producing any evidence.

Then the story went viral being picked up by the anti global warming groups associated with right wing politics. And it ends up on the Answerbank.
