If that really is it, then they should know that diplomacy is better than bluntness when trying to get agreements. Not a wise move if they are to be taken seriously. An apology was in order. Especially if they hope to retain friendly relationships with other nations.
Let them be offended if they want to, nobodys forcing them to be ....
do i get offended if the frogs call me a ros bif ?..no
do i get offended if the septics call me a limey ?..no
do i get off..blah blah ?..no
I can understand some Germans finding that expression offensive.
As my family emigrated here just prior to the first world War and I retain the very Germanic family name I have once or twice been called that . Quite frankly it didn't worry me one bit.Any more than I have been called a Limey by my American counterparts. The origins of the expressions are well known.
Mr,Banks, however, is tweeting to a world wide audience and should of known he was bound to cause offence to some. He has apologised.
I apologise for the misplacement of the link.
How is it that some foreigners find some things offensive yet others are called Brits, Limey, Yanks, Paddies etc, not to mention what Trump, Boris and Garage are called.
One doesn't normally make a conscious decision on how one feels, does one. It's taken by the subconscious which is what forms who you are at a deep instinctive level. The conscious merely experiences the result that was triggered by outside stimuli.
I agree with Boris why should we allow the Germans to dictate what should become over part of the UK, they have tried to rule Europe in the past, we don't need a 4th Reich.
