The observation at 18.29 is particularly despicable.
Corby gave the answer to the query about 40 posts ago, and the fact that it was not accepted with gratitude rather suggests I’m right about the above.

Tambo; did you get permission to publish that extract from the diary?
I have yet to buy a poppy - i may not even do so - but i have thrown my loose change in at least 4 'selling points' as i leave certain stores, without taking the offered poppy. And i am also involved year in, year out, raising money for the British Legion by selling raffle tickets in my local neighbourhood. Oh yeah, and i am also in the BL monthly draw and have been for the last 5 years or so. So, if you see me and i'm not wearing a poppy, please don't presume that i don't care. Thank you.

I don’t wear a poppy - not because I don’t care about those who fought in the war. I choose to give my money to other charities some of which are probably helping the survivors and their descendants in other ways.
Anyway, wasn’t there a bit of a hooha about a football team wearing poppies on their shirts recently? It was judged to be a political statement so wasn’t allowed. Have the rules changed?

Cloverjo; what you refer to was when England were to meet Scotland on the football pitch in a World Cup qualifier in 2016 on Nov 11. Both sides made a request to FIFA to wear poppies on their kit. Their requests were denied but both sides - along with Wales and N Ireland - defied FIFA by wearing black armbands with a red poppy on them. The 4 were fines a total of £80,000 (Engand - £35,000).
As for the Everton side wearing their poppies "with pride"? Do you know that for a fact, ynnafymmi? I only ask because the poppies were printed/sewn on to their shirts (so they could hardly refuse to wear them) and only 5 of the Everton line up were Brits. The rest were made up of 2 Frenchmen, a Brazalian, a Nigerian, a Colombian and a Portuguese.
