Because employment figures are supposed to correlate to things such as fewer food bank usage and benefits, and we're suppose to be able to paint a picture with the figures but we can't because they're totally skewed.

The only way we can really get a picture is to know how many people are on a "living wage".

I think the results would be absolutely shocking.
Do you? Okay.
Many docs, nurses, teaches, people in the public sector say we couldn't stand another 5 years of tory austerity.

Regular joes on AB think otherwise.

What do you think Gulliver?
I thought most benefits are based on actual earnings, not just whether you are "employed" or not?
I don't receive any benefits at all so i wouldn't know how the process goes.
I knwo if you're employed you aint gon get no JSA.
I don't either... but I am fairly sure that earnings and hours are taken into account.

I stand by my o/p Spath The Tories are a pack of Liars. The Lies just roll of Johnsons Tounge
He just can't help it can he.
The theory is, that anyone working will be better off for it. So JSA should be the least someone would want.
"He just can't help it can he."

It seems not many of them can. They faff about and blunder all the time yet brush their shoulders off and hope it lands on Corbyn.
Tung?
Boris is a liar, as is Farage, as was Thatcher - all Tories. Yes, Blair was a liar too but he was a virtual Tory. See - they're all the same.

They just can't Help themselves can they Diddly
Folk on JSA CAN work and receive the benefit still.
Gulliver/diddly, I vote for the other lot if I were you. With all they're going to give away you'll be rolling in money! ;o)
yes people as I under stand it can work whilst receiving universal credit and as I am led to believe that if they work 1 hour a day 5 days a week and they get paid £10 per hour they will take home about maybe £36 after any reductions (if any) then their universal credit would be reduced by £36
For folk on Universal Credit, entitlement is reduced by 63p for every pound of earnings after National Insurance and tax have been deducted.

Some groups are allowed to earn a fixed amount each month before the deductions begin.
Of course the Tories are lying. So are Labour. They're politicians and they're lips are moving. As a result, lies are happening.
The fact remains that counting people on a pathetic number of hours per week/month etc as "employed" makes a mockery of the unemployment figures.
It's an internationally used definition of employment so it makes sense to use it in order to make valid comparisons with other countries.
