How are we, as a society, going to stop this knife culture? Can we try and have some ideas rather than turning this into the usual political slanging match, thanks.

The baddies know full well there is a BIG shortage of police, and that = less of a risk of getting caught, that is simple maths, don't you think? plus when they do have to flood an area, that leaves other areas open to further crime. When the cats away, the mince will play, or in this case slay.
More police is not the answer. They openly mock the police.
Punishment today is a joke. We need more severe punishments and never mind ''we can't name them because they are too young '' etc.
I would ship some of them out to some of the countries ravaged by wars, floods, famine etc. and put them to work in helping to rebuild and help people in desperate need. Maybe by helping others they might get a sense of responsibility.
Take them away from the toxic environment that some of them are living in.

//You won't stop any crimes happening with a 60% reduction within the police force...//
Eh? Numbers of police across the UK increased year on year until 2010 when the total stood at 171,600. Annual reductions since then have seen a decline to 150,000 (as at March '19) - a decrease of 12.5% on the 2010 figure. Where does the 60% come from?
The sort of problems highlighted here of course begin with upbringing (or rather, lack of it). But they are exacerbated by the pathetic Youth Justice system which is totally unfit for purpose. The disposals available to Magistrates are hopelessly inadequate but it is not only that. Youth courts are run along the lines of social clubs. If you were able to attend one (but you can't because they are held behind closed doors) you would see what I mean. The court house is a convenient meeting place for the scrotes to meet up with their fellow miscreants and discuss their latest activities. They can have a smoke on the door step before being invited in for a not-too-stern talking to about their latest misdemeanours (which have no doubt brought misery and inconvenience to those around them). They leave with a smile on their face and a short extension to their ongoing "Referral Order" which is just about the only sanction the court can impose. It's quite pathetic really to see a strapping 17 year old in the court (accompanied by his minders from the Youth Offending Team and his Legally Aided solicitor, natch) addressed by his first name so as the poor mite does not feel intimidated, explaining - through his brief - how he only attacked a police officer because his father had left home was he was three. Three or four years of they are more than ready to face the rigours of the adult court at 18. A government that gets that sorted out might stand some sort of chance of regaining control of the streets.
