Why can't you learn how to spell 'Americans'?

I've been in a car with someone who'd been living in America for years and she did it loads of times. Luckily we were on quiet roads.

I'm trying to think of an Americanism for the British that's as rude as TTTs...but there aren't any that I know of.
All the rude ones come from Europe or further afield.

i was in a car with an American boyfriend, driving down to see family, without my noticing, or at least at first, we were facing the traffic on the wrong side of the road, now that was scary..

We often drive past Lakenheath. It's far better now than the nightmare is was years ago when there were numous accidents due to speeding and driving on the right by those leaving the base. It must have cost a fortune with alteration to the road,signage, traffic lights etc. We still drive with extreme care in the area. They are dreadful drivers!

As for the question ...

I wonder if the cars at their base are LHD or RHD - you'd hope right.

Maybe they need to have written in big letters on the dashboard DRIVE ON THE LEFT.

Or maybe there's just something about the roads around that base that makes it easy to think, if you're used to driving on the right, that's what you should be doing. Maybe, paid for by the USA, they need to install lots of road signs in the area saying "DRIVE ON THE LEFT" ["... you thick septic", if TTT's writing the signs].

Actually, given how many people (even Brits) who get their left and right mixed up, perhaps what's needed is pictures of cars and arrows drawn directly on the road to indicate the side of the road you ought to be on.

They have loads of signs in Ireland. In Knock at least. I can't remember seeing as many in Dublin.

I drove on the right in Greece. All fine until I came to roundabouts then I really had to concentrate and tended to follow the car in front if I could. OK once you get the hang of it.

usually the worst times for getting it wrong are when you come off a roundabout or out of a service station. Once you're actually on the road, the juggernauts coming straight for you are a useful reminder. I don't think I've ever driven on the wrong side in America in many thousands of miles, but once or twice in France as I recall.
