Whilst this smacks of MEPs trying to stay the execution of their careers, I don’t see how any deal can be concluded when key people aren’t at their best or unavailable.

In addition, It’s impossible to strike a deal until we know what economic state the world will be in when we come out of this.

The Civil Service is rapidly switching to dealing with Covid-19, key members of governments here and across the Channel are dealing with Covid or even sick, and there are more important things -- literal matters of life and death -- to focus on. No matter how important it is to sort out trade arrangements, fisheries policy, etc, anyone can see they are far less urgent.

I am actually in two minds on this at the moment.

On the one hand they can get it done it is just the EU (and probably some on the UK side) trying to score good boy points and thinking the UK must see how much they need the EU now......

On the other, delaying by a couple of months I don’t think will kill anyone. But I would insert the proviso that any extension does not include continuing payments to the EU. But of course that won’t happen lol

In addition to what I’ve said above, we also need to assess how many people in specific industries have been victims of CV. For example, there may be a crisis in the fishing industry which calls for a relaxation on all quotas / zones to ensure the industry isn’t completely lost. Farming production may suffer leading to new deals and countries working together to grow specific crops (more cereal crops for basic foodstuffs). We just don’t know. To do a deal now would be crazy.

Italy and Spain needed the EU more than the UK. Tell me what actions the EU took to help Italy and Spain?

Agree with Zacs, we could come out of this into a different world, and we may have to reunite with the E/U, and even ask or, beg for their help , The future is very uncertain .
