Harry And Meghan Tell Tabloids: No More Co-Operation
https:/ /www.bb c.co.uk /news/u k-52349 573
Have Harry and Meghan shot themselves in the foot here? Does ‘no more co-operation with the tabloids’ give the papers carte blanche to do their worst without the likelihood of repudiation?

If Megan had had an ounce of 'breeding' about her -and sorry for the word but I can't think of a more suitable one at the moment- she would have risen above every single bad thing said about her in the Press, employed a British PA firm and established her Brand -just as Catherine has. Instead she went all theatrical and with a 'do you know who I am ,like how BIG I am in the States!' and flounced off to Canada (who really didn't want them). now they are installed where she feels safe, is calling the shots, and now snubbing the British press. Personally I find her a disingenuous , attention seeker who won the golden ticket with Harry. Harry is an adult, I feel desperately sorry for him, he looked so sad at the last Royal Function, but he's not the first and won't be the last man to get taken for a fool by a pretty face.
//Time to ban it totally IMO....and the Sun.....an embarrassment//
Banning newspapers of which you don't approve? Slippery slope.
As for Harry blaming the press for his mother's death? His mother died almost 23 years ago and, as tragic as it was, stuff happens and you have to get over it. He may recall (if he is allowed to) that he has a brother who had the same mother.
I, too, was ecstatic when I saw the headline. I don't want to hear anything of this couple and I simply ignore anything I see written about them. Aunt Polly is quite right. The Markle woman believed she had won the lottery when she snared Harry. Well, here's a lesson. In 1961 the husband of a woman called Viv Nicholson won more than £153k (equivalent to about £3m today) on the football pools. Look her up and see what became of her. I'm not saying the same will happen to Markle but similar unhappiness is bound to be visited on the couple. I never wished Harry any ill until he treated his grandmother to the biggest flounce in recent years. They can stay wherever they like for as long as they like as far as I'm concerned so long as it's not here and as long as I don't hear about them.

I fear that Megan now has an extra pet with Harry. She seems to have got exactly what she wanted and is now where she wanted to be with no thought for his family. It’s just dreadful that the relationship between Harry and William appears to have broken down.
Megan will be courting the press when she feels the need, until then, the press may well have a free for all. There will always be sources!

//So why read - and post on - this thread, NJ?//
I was referring to items I read in the press, Ken. I often engage in discussions on here where I'm not that interested in the subjects just to explain that I'm not err… interested in the subjects! :-)
//Wonder if the same thing was ever said of Eddy and Wallace?//
Don't think so, Ken. From what I understand, Edward VIII did not really want to turn his back on the UK. But in order to marry Mrs Simpson that was largely forced upon him. He certainly didn't flounce off in a huff blaming everybody and anybody (but himself) for his plight.

david and wallace - he reverted to his usual name
No - Eddy or er David that is! thought he cd do all sorts of things of service to himself and others (the British Empire that is!)
But - - others - - - didnt
eventually a Governor of Bahamas and did all sorts of mal thingey - getting involved with mafia and then a murder
I do NOT of course imply that David wielded the ice pick
he probably got a footman to do it .....

I was always led to understand that Edward, unlike Harry, went into his relationship with his eyes wide open and his infatuation for her was much stronger than she was with him. I believe she did try to warn Edward what he was going to lose by deserting his country for her.
Lucky he didn't get shot for desertion when as Colonel in Chief of an army regiment he failed to mobilise with the rest of his Regiment.

Piers is beginning to sound like a broken record. He is clearly still smarting because she dropped him as a "mate". He would do far better to remove the oxygen of publicity rather than repetitively banging his drum. His obsessional way of shoehorning his displeasure at them into almost every story is getting a bit dull now.
I think the couple are assuming a level of probity and conscience on the part of the tabloids which, by definition, they have never had and never will have.
To approach an organisation which makes its money by taking the 'truth' and bending it beyond recognition for a readership who would believe that the earth is flat if the Sun or Mirror headlined it, and assuming you can either bargain for its good side, or withdraw, as they are doing, and assume it will mean they will only print the truth, belongs in fantasy land.
To think that the tabloids will stop printing garbage because it is not 'directly' from the couple, or that the readership will cease to read and believe lies because they couple have not 'authorised' a story is to believe that the tooth fairy lives on the moon which is made of green cheese.
This is the media. They make money from piffle, tosh, lies, half-truths, made-up garbage and self-created scandal.
To assume you can control them, bargain with them, agree with them, make a deal with them, co-operate with them, or, and this is the real stinger - withdraw from them, and expect them to behave any differently, is to be so naïve as to ponder if you should be allowed to use sharp cutlery.
Actually, the media will behave differently.
Without the pretence of co-operation and agreement, the media will go full speed into revenge and destruction, unfettered by any pretence of worrying about future co-operation, because there is none to lose, so the media have everything to gain by destroying what is left of the couple's reputation and popularity.
Watch the papers over the next few weeks - it's open season now.

bang on AH, these two would do well to emulate HM. Bit late I guess as you say it's open season now, not even the pretence of a deal with the meeja. After there mum died H + W did manage something of a deal with the press, regular access in exchange for leaving them alone for the rest of the time and that I think was largely successful. Perhaps H and Mrs should have explored that road a bit more.
