// The actual quote was that we would be lucky to keep deaths down to 20,000. I am also not crazy about his QALY concept.
Its arguable that a younger person who has many more QALY's left can afford to lose more than an older person who has less.//

The actual quote was that we would be lucky to keep deaths down to 20,000. is absolutely correct - but hey we are told that Prof Bonka Ferge predicted 500 000 deaths in Sweden - when - he didnt. Someone else did
But ho hum this is AB
who was it who said - none so deaf as those that have cloth ears ?

I am also not crazy about his QALY concept.
Its arguable that a younger person who has many more QALY's left can afford to lose more than an older person who has less.

Long aside - watch out ! do we know what a qualy is ( quality adjusted life year)- this is an extended version of NJs "they were gonna die anyway for chrissakes so so what?" [crescendo of wild applause from the usual subjects)
Say some one is 80 - predicted life span 5 y say ( not the same as average age of death this year) and he is so crap that he is 50% functional according to some criteria ( excuse me what did he just write?) then the Qualy is 2.5 y

and what does allow him to use qualy's - absolutely didddly squat

and as NJ says the whole time - Dr John's ten reasons to end lock down boil down to - - Dr John thinks it is a good idea

Dr John is a pathologist for chrissakes - since when - does anyone ( think of the thickest on AB) go along to a patholgist who cut up dead people for a living and ask - how long am I gonna live, doc?

well my dear just get onto this white ceramic examination couch .....
ha ha BA for PP
I usually enjoy PP's replies when I can understand them, but this one was particularly good.
//..this is an extended version of NJs "they were gonna die anyway for chrissakes so so what?"//

NJ has never said anything of the sort, PP. In fact quite the opposite. But never mind.
So, who is best qualified? The mathematician (instrument of choice - computer keyboard) or the medical man?

''Ferguson ....received his Master of Arts degree in Physics in 1990 at Lady Margaret Hall, Oxford and his Doctor of Philosophy degree in theoretical physics in 1994 at Linacre College, Oxford.[4][5] His doctoral research investigated interpolations from crystalline to dynamically triangulated random surfaces''
John Andre Lee is an English consultant histopathologist at Rotherham General Hospital and formerly clinical professor of pathology at Hull York Medical School. Lee gained his medical degree, a BSc and a PhD in physiology at University College

(...instrument of choice - scalpel).
