President Takes Anti Malarial - Is Dettol Next?
144 Answers
The President cleared the room when he admitted taking hydroxychloroquine.
He had also found a doctor to prescribe it
and MY question is : if a relative did that and died - would you complain to the authorities ( GMC and courts here ) that the doctor had NOT acted in the patients ( your relative that is!) best interests and should pay you ( the estate ) much moolah and lose his licence
Note to help posters - hydroxyChlor does NOT have a licence to be used in warding off covid

Now you're just being silly again. I think we're better off without you.

// Seems like everybody wants it now...Ooo Errr Missus.//
To see if it has any prophylactic effect ( as it is used for malaria). It has to be a randomised controlled trial ( see Gaudret - he excluded the ones that died) - and in order to do that ...... there has to be equipoise - that the possible benefits are near the possible side effects. and I wd be happy to argue we dont have one of those.
consent for recruiting into the trial is gonna be fun - would the results of the trial be influenced by the nmber of reasoned refusals to take part?
//‘ However, evidence regarding its effects in patients is limited.’ //
Yep. No one said it wasn't.
Nope I think you will find someone in the White House hyping it.
but hey this is AB - you read one thing one day and the exact opposite the next!

um no we have been told categorically ( no dissent!(*) he didnt
Just shows the folly of censoring non-consensus views
erm no I dont think it does - "I think it is lawful to go to bed with small children and dogs" is a non consensus view that shd be given minimal exposure (IMO)
(*) for fear of generating whiney complaints from half of AB
Brazil has gone mad innit? - they are demanding chloroquine from Jair Bolsonaro to treat victims

the commentators are looking at the how and why
as well as the text - and noticed a little smile
BUT it caused a shock on a day when he wanted them to listen to something else ( stock market rising 900 I think)
altho some on this thread have distinguished prescribe ( bit of paper from a doc ) and administer ( swallow ) he did use the word take and not been prescribed
and I dont think the doctor would own up to prescribing it unless he knew the patient was taking it
Some talk about taking it for seven days to cover his valets covid

no one reads this anymore - BUT
today - 26 May 20 - chloroquine has been abandoned in one trial but NOT the one announced a few days ago
The abandoned trial was a look back exercise ( cue all the disadvantages especially bias and lack of randomisation and lack of rigour) which found no advantage from adding it in - to whatever else was being used
the evidence from this kind of trial is rated as 'weak'

.Just to be clear, are you talking about Chloroquine (non-prescription) or Hydroxychloroquine (prescription) Only you seem to keep getting them muddled up. (accidentally :-))
HO-chlor. I am talking about that
You have taken a point as very important when it is not.
The difference is a hydroxyl group - peanuts. About the same as Pen-G and Pen - V and much smaller than the difference between Pen-G and amp.
take it from me - I have a degree in this or.... read this
Hydroxychloroquine, a less toxic derivative of chloroquine, is ...www.nature.com › cell discovery › correspondence
18 Mar 2020 - Vero E6 cells were treated with different doses of either compound or with PBS in the controls for 1 h and then infected with SARS-CoV-2 blah blahblah etc
BOTH increase the QTc interval - see here
https:/ /pubmed .ncbi.n lm.nih. gov/180 78640/
and no to answer my own question - I wd not allow a relation to take it unless they had malaria - on the grounds that we are all over 70 and a lot of us are fibrillating and it is a known dangerous drug
( you can spicey - I dont mind)

Ladies - I will include TTT and myself in that
this is an evidence based thread - can we veer away from phrases like
" you lying batch! you were lying about hydrocksy-whatever - weren't you!"
and more: "I recognise that the hydroxy group does not relate to its therapeutic action and may be intended to lessen cardiac effects. It has not been shown to be safer - and the hydroxy group have been added to evade a patent"
