As Tyson Fury has commented today.
If Tyson had said that white people should not use black or Asian owned shops, there would be mass hysteria and he would've been hounded out of town.
So how come AJ can say such things and get away with it, double standards or what!

come on St Peter, you must know by now that only white people can be racist!
Black privilege?

I don't really care enough to fret about it. He may have suffered a brain injury causing him to misspeak.
It'll all depend on the sponsors now.
This is what he said:

// ‘Show them where it hurts,’ he said. ‘Abstain from spending your money in their shops and economies and invest in black-owned businesses.’//

That seems clear enough to me.

I don't agree with Joshua's sentiments, but, that said, the only situation in which Fury's and Joshua's statements are directly comparable is if we are living in an ideal world with racial equality. We do not live in such a world. It's similar to complaining about the existence of a Black History Month with "why isn't there a White History Month?", or "where is the Music of White Origin Award?", or some such. The answer is that one is promoting the existence/history/culture of the minority in this society, and the other is not.

Dumb people say dumb things
asking Tyson Fury to say anything coherent is a non starter by the way - he just managed to get out the Bible didnt like homosexuality a coupla years ago
jim, what racial inequality are you referring to? As far as I know our laws are the same for everyone regardless of ethnic background.
//The answer is that one is promoting the existence/history/culture of the minority in this society, and the other is not. //

That doesn't make any of it right. It makes it racist.
I can think of one flaw in Joshua's suggestion. How many business's are black owned? I can't think of any in my city.
// The answer is that one is promoting the existence/history/culture of the minority in this society,//

......and that is why there are White History Month", and "Music of White Origin" awards in all the African Countries, India, Pakistan, China, Japan, the Caribbean Counties, Vietnam, Iraq, Iran, Turkey, and anyone else that knows me.
Does he also mean that they should only loot, and shop without documentation at "black owned stores"?
// you must know by now that only white people can be racist!//

I addressed this misunderstanding already, although it seems that the thread I posted it in has been deleted. But in any case it's a complete nonsense: there is no definition of racism in which anyone holds that only White people can be racist. However, racism at a societal level is tied into the question of who is in control of/who is the majority in the country in question. For example, the Chinese treatment of the Uighur minority in their country is racist -- it would be abhorrent anyway, but it is also clearly racially-motivated.
Maybe Joshua should lead the way instead of demanding it of others. He could start by giving his money to a black trainer rather than Rob McCracken, or a black manager rather than Freddie Cunningham.

I agree that it's good to support local businesses, but selecting where you shop based on the race of the owner is pure, unadulterated racism.
Racial inequality can manifest itself in ways other than what is or isn't in law.
trying to explain the finer points of the argument to a heavyweight boxer may require some patience
//Racial inequality can manifest itself in ways other than what is or isn't in law. //

It certainly can. Joshua has demonstrated that.
Perhaps it would be worth asking Joshua why he thought it was a suggestion worth making. What systemic problems was he complaining about that led him to decide on this?

It's important to make sure you fully understand a person's argument before dismissing it.
Oh right. More 'buts'.

The fact is had a white man said similar he'd have been in trouble....and no one would have given a hoot about his reasons for saying it ..... but you know that.
You can always get a job as a contortionist when they find you out in the lab, jim.
// you must know by now that only white people can be racist!//

I recall over 20 years ago someone had 'been on a course', always a bad sign, and she was reporting back on the first Training day of the term.
'Black people cannot be racist' was the basis of her report, those of us who had actually taught in multi-cultural schools tried hard not to laugh and returned to our crosswords.
// The fact is had a white man said similar he'd have been in trouble... //

That's because systemic racism in this country is an issue for BAME people rather than White people. People *would* have cared about Fury's reasons, and discovered that they were fundamentally flawed from the outset.
