I'm waiting for the Black Country, West Midlands, to be targeted next.....

Gone beyond ridiculous now :o/
I guess they can change the name if they want - it's their team isn't it

However in
this case ' sponsors ' is the key word here
As it says in your link, TTT, this move has been going on for a number of years, given more prominence now because of the BLM bandwagon. To be totally honest, i'm a tad surprised that the name hasn't been changed before now. I suppose that if Fedex are serious in their treat to pull the plug on their sponsorship, then the club will have only 2 options open. Change their name (perhaps back to the original Washington Braves) or find another sponsor.
"Threat" not 'treat' - an example of how the omission of one letter can change a word so dramatically:-(
it's going to get difficult if anything with a colour in it gets banned, sorry , used the word colour

tiggerblue - // I'm waiting for the Black Country, West Midlands, to be targeted next..... //

Since the area was nicknamed for the smoke and soot of its heavy industry, and has never had any racial overtones, it ought to be safe.

But you never know ...
No more "Black Fridays" and what about the Green Party. Black Lives Matter could be banned as well - hang on a minute.
Except the original wasn’t the Washington Braves, it was the Boston Braves.
Washington Palefaces?

I take it you looked at the picture in the link?
That's what I thought AH. But, like you say, who knows....

I just hope the militant BLM do their homework before eying up a certain statue in Hull.
//Except the original wasn’t the Washington Braves, it was the Boston Braves.//

Who turned into the Boston Redskins before moving to Washington. Ken is spot on.
anyway washington - had exterminated their Indians by 1650 innit? as TTT might say - - end of !

as for Blackpool and Black country being renamed or 'safe' - Dogpool got changed even tho it came from DarkPool
( well perhaps that was the reason haw haw haw)

listeners will note the English dont do voiced (g) and unvoiced consonants (p) together so that it remained /Dokpool/

sozza mind wandering during all this white supremacy stuff

hey ! why is 90% of AB not applauding vigourously when Pres Trump ( you know, the most powerful man on earth, after Pres Xi that is!) called the confederate generals - - heroes?
I mean are they blind and deaf today?
//Who turned into the Boston Redskins before moving to Washington. Ken is spot on//

Except he isn’t. The original name was the Boston Braves, they have never been the Washington Braves.
“redskin (ˈrɛdˌskɪn)
n
an old-fashioned informal name, now highly offensive, for a Native American”

//Except he isn’t. The original name was the Boston Braves, they have never been the Washington Braves.//

You're right, but the franchise itself was originally called the Braves.

American football teams are named after the franchise, not the place, hence you have had the Las Vegas Raiders previously based in both LA and Oakland, the LA Chargers previously based in San Diego and the Arizona Cardinals previously based in both St Louis and Phoenix.

The Boston Braves and the Washington Redskins are the same team, just under a different name.

Besides, I personally think that the "Washington Braves", if they did decide to change it, sounds pretty good.
I am happy to be corrected. No need for anyone to fall out over it. And, Mozz, as you say, Washington Braves does have a certain ring to it.
// American football teams are named after the franchise, not the place, //

generally true, but that's not the whole story - for instance, no city made as much steel as Pittsburg, and the only home of the Indian Packing company was Green Bay. etc etc.
I think 'Washington Braves' sound good as well. If there is a history behind the name then maybe a good enough reason to change it it suppose.
True Mushy. I remember the Houston Oilers moving to Tennessee. The Tennessee Oilers lasted a year before the realised it made no sense and changed to the Titans.
maybe the team should relocate to Alabama. they could then be the Birmingham Rednecks.
