no thread on this yet.
so I thought I would remind you
what do ABers think? - my own surprise is the speed at which the police conduct dept acted, why it was put on internet media without complaint
and why the body cameras were not showing they were on - so the only film is viral on the internet
oh and the editor has asked me to point out that the sunny Sun report that one explained " I was only taking the knee" is completely untrue - he said something else

Why should any officer have to enter into any hand to hand combat with someone they suspect of carrying a weapon, just supply them all with a taser, ask them to drop what their carrying if not give them a buzz, then there's no need for any knee action or a struggle. I won't put my life on the line every day for this ruddy government, or any other.
TTT - // ... it never ceases to amaze me how much concern there is for criminal low life scum. //
Personally, my view is not based on putting the rights of the criminal above the rights of the public.
To me it is about having rules, which are then enforced, because that is how society operates.
If you don't have rules for the law protectors, then you lose the moral (and legal) high ground when the law breakers have no rules, the same as the protectors.
Society establishes a set of ground rules which it expects people to live by, and the enforcement of those rules has to be carried out using a set of rules as well.
Otherwise, society cannot decide what is criminal action and what is not, and police officers become powerless because they operate with the same absence of accountability as the criminals.
It's easy to say that this is defending the rights of criminals, but rights are not subjective, they belong to everyone - that is how the law operates, and has to continue to operate.

14.15 Every time they put riff raff to the floor, by what ever method they will always have my respect, the only ones that won't respect them are the riff raff that still think its a good idea to carry a weapon. And has long has they keep letting them out of prison early, they will continue to do what they wish. He was already on a recall back to prison, had he used that knife before this copper got hold of him, most of you would have been up in arms demanding to know why he was let out, and why the police were not keeping an eye on him. Regarding the stupid lawyer who is trying to get him off, should be prosecuted for aiding and betting, ( I wish :0)) stuff him in jail with the scum he's trying to protect.
I think you might have just made the sort of ridiculous analogy you're criticizing. mamyalynne.
It's worth remembering that all confrontations cannot be solved with a few well chosen words and quotations from the book of rules - sometimes physical force becomes necessary and things can get rather messy (and, sadly, that's when accidents happen).

Anyway, in this case there was no death of a suspect. The concern in such cases is that the police become public executioners, when execution is not lawful in this country. A police officer may well overact in a case where his own life is at risk, and will rightly be taken to task and subject to scrutiny; there should not be a culture of "Oh well, they broke the law and deserve to die."
