Face Masks In Shops
123 Answers
Went into a Kingston on Thames newsagent yesterday, man in front of me didn’t have a mask, lady behind me didn’t have a mask. Guy behind counter had one, as did I, but he didn’t say a word to them. There is a police station across the road, six police sitting in a van outside. Nothing done.

In the meantime, could you or your daughter not print off an A5 or A6 sheet explaining your daughter's deafness and asking the other person to remove the face covering to enable lip reading as the Regulations permit?
You might want to make it a wee bit snapper and then laminate it or take a photo and save it to the 'phone.
Action on Hearing Loss (the trading name of the RNID) has a sheet that can be downloades.
It wouldn't be clear to me I was being asked to remove my face covering and I fed that back to them a while ago.

bedknobs we were taught basic stuff by the RNID about communicating with people who are hearing impaired in my job in the NHS. Generally what helps is to face them, slow your speech a little, deepen the pitch of your voice a bit, or at least don't go shrill. if a bit more volume will help then its important to keep your expression pleasant...oddly its a common thing when people raise their voices for them to look as though they are frowning or irritated. The other thing, and should be the first thing of course is to ask the individual what helps them.
