More than 100% of GDP.

When Labour left office in 2010 the National Debt was less than £1 Trillion, so the Tories have managed to double it. Will the electorate ever forgive the Conservatives again for trouncing the economy?

The BIG question is ... to whom are all these governments in debt ?
And more importantly, why ?
Yes, I'm afraid you've made a right wally of yourself here gromit.
well naomi is back from her Grand SIlence and I agree with her !

The Conservative Party manifest in 2010 promised:

// Gordon Brown’s debt, waste and taxes have wrecked the economy and threaten to kill the recovery. A Conservative government will take action now to cut the deficit, stop Labour’s jobs tax, help keep mortgage rates low and get the economy moving. We will create a new economic model built on investment and savings, not borrowing and debt. //

Oops!
Gromit, stop digging. You've already made more than a twit of yourself.
I'd assume that voters would appreciate that the Tories have been forced by events, as a global economic crisis started to hit home. On the other hand -- and the angle I thought this post was going for -- this was true in 2008, too.
Gromit, you are continuing to ignore the fact that nobody could have envisaged Coronavirus. As previously stated this OP is ridiculous.
dannyk, regarding jobs for Tory jobs for the boys, this is the latest

Not the first time they've got a government contract without it being put out to tender, either

jno, I will accept that, but what on earth has it got to do with the national debt?
gromit 10:42, what a plonker, you're embarrassing yourself now me old china!
weird. One minute ABers are squealing about how the government's response to Covid will destroy the economy for years. The next minute it's hey, no problem, of course Covid's going to be costly, not the government's fault at all.

But what a trillion pounds these days? It's only our children who'll have to pay it off.
dannyk, you wrote

////Gulliver //Handing out Contracts to their Tory Associates//
Proof of this please, or is it just more of your false news.////

I provided the evidence you requested. It's not false news.
jno: we accept the cost, it's not the governments fault, simple. Unless you think Labour would have done it differently and for no cost?? how?
There is some truth in what Gromit says. It's time we had a right wing party running this country.
do we accept the cost? There are any number of posts (New Judge's, for instance) saying it's an outrage and should be stopped immediately before the country is damaged irreparably. Should it or not?
We should be easing off, not adding more restrictions. The idea is to avoid an overwhelming peak of cases, not have all tickety-boo.
