Boris is Floundering, and his Majority may not save him. Normally a Pm with a big working majority does not have many worries about backbenchers. That is what Thatcher thought, also with a Huge Majority until her own MPs ousted her. Boris with his back increasingly against the wall , after only nine months in power is concerning his own MPs,
( you could see it in their faces at PMQs.) His handling of Covid + his loyalty to Cummings, Gavin Williamson , Robert Jenrick, and the his idea of Tony Abbott as trade Sec ,are amongst just a few of their concerns. Oh dear.

We aren’t though, in many ways, yet actually “out”. Even if we are headed inexorably that way. Only the terms of withdrawal have been agreed.

I still think a trade deal will happen, one where we will stay adhering to many EU trade standards while emphasising the freedom to maybe not be if we wanted ;-)

if 'we' come out of the negotiation/transition phase with no deal, then 'we' will be subject to WTO rules.
Not a problem, 'we' can leave the WTO without any phases, as far as I'm aware and then be truly an independent country.

WTO rules are rubbish and exist only as a default. It isn’t a trading group. You don’t “join” or “leave” it as such.
Our trade deal with the EU may end up being interim for a long time to get round impact of leaving the EU

I doubt Boris has many worries. Other parties have shown themselves to disrespect democracy, and in his own party I don't see a likely contender for the throne.

Meanwhile we have left the EU and are simply participating in the Customs Union until the end of the year. If the EU fail to change their tune at the last minute then we both will be worse off, but that's no reason to capitulate and stay under the EU thumb. We will have the freedom to trade with all. They can count the cost of more division between EU nations, and certain industries, as a result.
