You really do need to be careful what you say, because there are a lot of people about who want to use the world's anxiety about islamic terrorism to do some beastly things and we do need to be vigilant about letting that happen.
The NYT 'BERLIN — Four people were killed and 10 others wounded after a drunk man sped in his S.U.V. through a pedestrian shopping street in the city of Trier in southwestern Germany on Tuesday. Prosecutors said the man did not appear to be motivated by political or religious beliefs and that they were investigating the case on suspicion of murder.
The man, a 51-year-old German who was born in Trier and lived in the surrounding area, was stopped by police after driving a zigzag course roughly half a mile long down the busy street lined with shops. Prosecutor Peter Fritzen said the man, who officials declined to name, was drunk and appeared to have been living in the vehicle, which was confiscated.
“There are indications that point to a possible psychiatric disorder,” said Mr. Fritzen.'
And he's not Turkish either.

It isn’t that he “thought that”
Many people including me would “think that”.
It’s the daft belief that there is a conspiracy to deny that the thing might be a terrorist act.
So the trolling, confrontational tone is set from the start and inevitably ends in a usually irrelevant discussion where it seems apparent that people on one side actually WANT to be right.

Speaking personally, my position was only against the knee-jerk assumption that the incident has the hallmarks of a terrorist incident, so therefore it must automatically be a terrorist incident.
I think jumping to conclusions like that is narrow-minded and bigoted, and as it turns out, my position was the correct one.
I have no desire to be 'right' in terms of the subsequent evidence, merely to try and avoid jumping to conclusions based on lumping negative assumptions about an entire faith into the actions of a minority.

ich - // I don’t think Tora was even jumping to conclusions. Like I say, it’s natural for anyone to think this might be a terrorist incident.
It’s simply a troll. //
I can understand people thinking that this may have been a terrorist incident, in which case, an appropriate OP would something along the lines of a question - "Does anyone else think this may be terrorist related?" or something similar.
But you are right - "I say TROP did it ..." is a troll, and probably didn't deserve the length of discussion it generated.
But that's the AB - threads go where they will.

I've gotten to the point that, when I see a post like this about any tragic incident, I believe Tora desperately hopes the perpetrator is an Islamic terrorist, just so he can "Do the usual dance". The man's admitted he does it to wind "TROB" up.
I guess trolling like this doesn't break Site Rules, so he gets away with it.

Oh, actually the Site Rules say
"Users attempting to spam or "troll" the website will have their account terminated."
Must be an empty threat.
