Naomi: "...every single person who has any connection whatsoever to terrorism..."
Does your definition above exclude family members? It doesn't sound it. I hope you meant it to.
Naomi misses the point that our legal system, and in particular prisons, would be completely swamped. She'll talk some guff about sending them back to where they came from, missing the point that a lot of them are 'home grown'.
Naomi, you said "any connection", so atheist's question is completely valid. You really do need to be careful what you say, because there are a lot of people about who want to use the world's anxiety about islamic terrorism to do some beastly things and we do need to be vigilant about letting that happen.
Untitled, thanks for thought but I take no responsibility for other people’s inability to rationalise. If I need your advice in future be assured I’ll ask for it.
I have nothing useful to add.
Just trying to get Tora up to 250 replies :-)
That was nearly funny, naomi.
Naomi. please think about your words. You advocate locking up "any single person who has any connection whatsoever to terrorism" forever, but you won't admit that you were talking without your usual thinking. Please give us a hint that you might have been a bit over the top.
No chance, atheist. We have often had a conversation that naomi means "terrorists", but uses words like "Islam" or "muslim" instead. And doesn't change it. I'm glad that other people are starting to see through it as well.
thought it was a 51 year old pished out of his brain who has been arrested, some mental issues there as well. So doing the 'Muslim Fling', TTT is not exactly apropos and somewhat distasteful.
The NYT 'BERLIN — Four people were killed and 10 others wounded after a drunk man sped in his S.U.V. through a pedestrian shopping street in the city of Trier in southwestern Germany on Tuesday. Prosecutors said the man did not appear to be motivated by political or religious beliefs and that they were investigating the case on suspicion of murder.

The man, a 51-year-old German who was born in Trier and lived in the surrounding area, was stopped by police after driving a zigzag course roughly half a mile long down the busy street lined with shops. Prosecutor Peter Fritzen said the man, who officials declined to name, was drunk and appeared to have been living in the vehicle, which was confiscated.

“There are indications that point to a possible psychiatric disorder,” said Mr. Fritzen.'

And he's not Turkish either.
Ok so TTT was wrong this time, but isn't driving a car into pedestrians now one of the preferred methods of killing and maiming by terrorists?? So now wonder he thought that.

Terrible that a little baby died.
It isn’t that he “thought that”
Many people including me would “think that”.
It’s the daft belief that there is a conspiracy to deny that the thing might be a terrorist act.
So the trolling, confrontational tone is set from the start and inevitably ends in a usually irrelevant discussion where it seems apparent that people on one side actually WANT to be right.

Speaking personally, my position was only against the knee-jerk assumption that the incident has the hallmarks of a terrorist incident, so therefore it must automatically be a terrorist incident.

I think jumping to conclusions like that is narrow-minded and bigoted, and as it turns out, my position was the correct one.

I have no desire to be 'right' in terms of the subsequent evidence, merely to try and avoid jumping to conclusions based on lumping negative assumptions about an entire faith into the actions of a minority.
I don’t think Tora was even jumping to conclusions. Like I say, it’s natural for anyone to think this might be a terrorist incident.
It’s simply a troll.

I can understand people thinking that this may have been a terrorist incident, in which case, an appropriate OP would something along the lines of a question - "Does anyone else think this may be terrorist related?" or something similar.

But you are right - "I say TROP did it ..." is a troll, and probably didn't deserve the length of discussion it generated.

But that's the AB - threads go where they will.
I've gotten to the point that, when I see a post like this about any tragic incident, I believe Tora desperately hopes the perpetrator is an Islamic terrorist, just so he can "Do the usual dance". The man's admitted he does it to wind "TROB" up.

I guess trolling like this doesn't break Site Rules, so he gets away with it.
Oh, actually the Site Rules say

"Users attempting to spam or "troll" the website will have their account terminated."

Must be an empty threat.
it has to be reported, though.
I just want to add that I don't want to see Tora's account deleted, I just want to see him follow the same rules we all have to on here.
