Ah, OK. Coincidentally, I was watching an English detective show yesterday, and, for some reason, it was mentioned that the Queen was Coronated on July 3rd., 1953.
June 2nd 1953 the Queen was Crowned.....

She became Queen on 6th February 1952 on the death of her father King George VI and reigned from that date. The coronation is merely symbolic and is often a year or more after the Accession.

Yes, it was 2nd June 1953. I remember being sent to my grandma's for the day as my mother had gone to a friend's to watch it on TV. I was only 4.

I'd been at infant school for a year by then.
i remember seeing it some years ago, it was splendid.
i wonder if Charles coronation, if he ever gets to the throne, will be as splendid.
When the King died, unbelievably now, the BBC radio (all there was) switched itself off for several days.

I can remember the radio going off. My mother was listening to Housewives' Choice when it fell silent. She went next door to ask the neighbour if her wireless was working, which it wasn't. It came back on at 11 o'clock with the announcement of the king's death.
the Queen must have been devastated.
