I suspect the queen considers it as the day her father died rather than the day she became queen ie, more sadness than celebration.
i don't know, but being away can't have helped.

The king and queen were due to go on a tour of Africa but he was too ill so Princess Elizabeth and Philip went in his place. There is poignant newsreel footage of the king waving them off at the airport on a bitterly cold day without a hat. He would die six days later.
I'm certain she's over the worst by now.
Queen Victoria never got over the death of Prince Albert,Duggie,ok not her dad but no reason to believe HM is still not grieving over the death of her father.
Congratulations to our hardworking Queen, you've done us proud Ma'am
Nice.

It has been rumoured that when she turns 95 in April she will have Charles created prince regent to take over her daily tasks but will not abdicate as queen.
Why do you want her to go, david?
as said she doesn't seem as though she needs, wants to step down... i hope she doesn't
Congratulations, Your Majesty :-)
Congratulations to HM and many more years to come :o)
I wouldn’t want her to stand down either, Emmie. She’s given her life to this country, she’s served it well - and continues to do so. I don’t believe in putting loyal and capable people out to grass just because they’re old. She’s a credit to us all.
yes she is a credit to this country....putting duty beyond anything else.

Queen Mary was still alive when the king died. She had outlived three of her six children.
What a great lady. I remember when the tv closed down because someone famous had died but can't remember who it was - seems so unbelievable now with all the coverage of anyone's death. Might it have been Winston Churchill? Or perhaps JFK?
