I wonder if they will have to relinquish the Sussex title too? I hope so.

so who will take his patronages....

votes here for Rugby Union and League, Mike Tindall?

theatre land - Sophie - or does the Queen call on the two 'useless' sisters to get off their backsides?

Invictus - Rear Admiral Lawrence or maybe HRH P-Royal Anne - and they would be ideal for the 'Small Ships'

Then there's Universities and Animals - I vote in HRH Prince Randy for the latter....Duchess of C for the former.

Others, such as Silverstone and Smartworks, Sentebale and Well Child, over to you....
I bet if Philip wasn't so frail, he'd have something to say to them both !
Apparently her Nibs did consult with the old boy - and no doubt PC and the DofC....
I fear that ye Dook is on his last ride....
what will happen at the Duke's funeral and will Harry if he turns up - get booed?

In the Dukes Children - Trollope writes about the wayward offspring of the Duke of Omnium so it has all been seen or written about before

well I am not sure about that, PP....however, the DoS is his grandson and with the service heritage as a bond between them and Her Nibs signed off her announcement with (paraphrase), 'they remain much-loved members of the Royal Family'.
did you keep your face straight when Sussex ( for it was he) said that everyone lived a life of service ?
( or cd - but that wd imply choice and he has no choice )
cheeky little sad !
These threads throw up all the usual approaches, criticisms, praise, and everything in between, which pretty much mirrors the feelings of the population at large.

My view has always been that Harry't time in the army was the only time in his life when he felt, and was treated, like a normal human being, and the end if his service meant that such an experience would never come again, and he would be back to being a Royal, which he honestly did not want to be.

When he met Meghan, as someone who has lived a different life, outside the abnormal straitjacket of royalty, she showed him that life could be different, and I do believe they took that choice together.

Giving up his military roles is a price Harry will understand he has to pay for his freedom, and he will pay it with a heavy heart, but no doubt feel that the price is actually worth it.

No-one chooses to be royal, but they have a choice whether or not it is a life they want to continue to lead - and Harry chooses not to, and that is his choice, and no-one else's.

I hope he is happy, and I also hope that some posters on here recognise what the term 'invasion' in the expression 'invasion of privacy' actually means.
giving up the title as the lead lady suggests ( Naomi that is!)
1917 with the great reorg of the Windsor family

the title of the Germans were taken away ( Duke of Brunswick etc) were just taken away on the Kings say-so innit?
and the germans who were english were given english titles
nattenberg to Mountbatten and Milford Haven etc
Hi Andie
invasion of privacy meaning blardy great lucrative contrat with Netflix and flogging ones pathetic story of suffering to Oprah

well if that is the case for all of us - you can invade my privacy any day hur hur hur

( but I fear etc etc)
// No-one chooses to be royal,//

o god how can one of AB's greatest thinkers write this stuff ( andie that is!) ? er ye Dook, Tindall, ( one of three) Camilla, Diana, the Ferge, Meghan hem hem ALL chose to be royal - excusez moi!

My fault I know for reading and thinking about what other people write

I assumed the basic level of intelligence in any reader to understand that when I say 'No one chooses to be royal ... ' I am talking about those who are born into the family, not those who marry into it, obviously by choice.

As I have pointed out several times, choosing to open up your life to the media is a choice, as in a contract to speak to Oprah Winfrey. Being followed by paparazzi and having your letters printed in the media without your knowledge or consent, is not a choice.

It's a simple difference, but one a number of people on here either fail to grasp, or conveniently ignore because it stops them being hostile to the couple to the degree that they wish to offer.
problem is meghan loves the press on her terms, and as am b list actress..will never relinquish it, crave spot light being fawned over
can you imagine them retiring to a ranch in somwhere in america and never talking to the press ie her, she thrives on it, wanted it all her life, i think harry could ie just let me be.

Next time you speak to the Duchess, give her my best and tell her I loved her in suits, especially the model walk she always used.

I assume you will be speaking to her? You must be on personal terms to know how she thinks and feels, and what she wants for the rest of her life.

I mean, how else would you know?
There are things you're happy for others to know about - so you don't mind telling them, and things you're not happy for others to know about - so you keep them private.

Some people struggle with this concept. They seem to think that because you give an interview to talk about the non-private things, everyone has a right to know the all private things as well. Strange.
I wish them well. I think Megan is very ambitious and nothing is wrong with that, but I don't see the same fire in Harry's belly and I think he's got a lot of emotional stuff to process. I wonder how it will play out. She's a lone wolf with a fractured family. One day Harry may come to regret the distance literally and metaphorical that has opened up between him and his family. I think he will need them.

It's right to have a clean break as much as possible. Personally I think the titles should go too.

What I don't understand is the constant media coverage which is so dysfunctional. Bashing them but revelling every time there is something new to ficus on. Time to let it go.

A lot of the strugglers seem to post on threads like this as well!

This is a drum I have been banging for years, but I honestly think there are two lots of people involved - people who genuinely do not understand what 'invasion of privacy' actually means, and people who do know, but think that being famous means you forfeit the basic entitlement everyone else enjoys - a private life.

I can't speak for Harry obviously (unlike others on here!!!), but speaking as someone who cut off his family because of their entrenched hostility to the woman he loved, I can say that I have not regretted doing so for one single minute.

I do regret that my children were without a grandmother and aunties and cousins they could have had, but what you never had you never miss - and that applies to the love and suport of my mother and sisters.

Harry may regret the split, but if he is happy with his wife and children, I wouldn't bet on it.
Andy Hughes.

Agree that sometimes you have to cut people out of life and for any number of reasons.

The RF though are not like many families though- they're a massive bunch of people and surely if something was up we would have got wind of it before? Harry always seemed generally happy and was doing good work.

You are quite right, the RF are not like any other family, not only are they a personally dysfunctional bunch of disparate personalities, they are also part of a massive publicity machine that controls anything and everything the machine wishes us to know.

The palace press office would have embargoed any dissent from Harry, and if the media has not managed to sniff it out, it will remain a secret - along with thousands of others.

I think it is a reasonable assumption that while William and Kate enjoy and embrace their royal lives, Harry and Meghan do not, and the rest of the world has pronouncements to make about that.
