You don't have to like someone to be saddened by the impact their death causes . He was the head of a large, and at times slightly odd family at times I am sure he would have wished his life had turned out differently but he did his duty as best he could, his legacy may well turn out to be greater than his life. One of his 'causes' was conservation and he was involved in the setting up of the WWF, their credibility makes them a major player in the growing movement wanting to save the planet, if they succeed and we get through the climate crisis to a better world then the lives of young people shaped by the Duke of Edinburgh Award scheme may be secondary.
His sense of duty to nation, wife and family, when a man of his generation would never normally play second fiddle to his wife is an example of how to compromise without losing your dignity.

i haven't read all the posts re duke of edinburgh but did notice there was bad even vile posts made about him.
Now how can some people type some vile posts re him when they don't bloody know him. Has he (Duke) physically, personally, verbally, touched these Abers - so I would say not - so why make a scatty judgement .
