I have sent a suitable message via Fibonacci's link. My first attempt failed, but my second one was successful. I assume that the website was being heavily used.
If it was non-Covid, he would be accorded a Royal Ceremonial unless the Queen designated the status of a State, This is reserved for the Monarch, Princes of the Line and those who have given exceptional service to the nation. Whoever said that they only knew of two States are forgetting that Margaret Thatcher got one, albeit limited, as it had been so long since Winston Churchill's they needed the practice!.
" The most recent state funeral of a former prime minister was that of Churchill in 1965. ... Despite initial speculation that Margaret Thatcher would be accorded a state funeral, after her death in 2013, the government indicated that she would not receive a state funeral "in accordance with her own wishes"."
I stand corrected - I believe that they used elements of her service to 'practice' the State ahead of The Queen - or Prince Charles, as he may pop his clogs before his Mother.... The last time that happened was George III to George IV as the III outlived his son, otherwise we would have had a King Fred.
Just had an email from Waitrose re D of E.

//As a Royal Warrant holder, Waitrose is deeply saddened by the death of His Royal Highness The Duke of Edinburgh and profoundly grateful for his extraordinary service to the nation over so many years.

We extend our heartfelt sympathy to Her Majesty The Queen and The Royal Family.\\

Very nice.
'And could someone pay his Port bill?'
//'And could someone pay his Port bill?'//

I think that the Royal Navy may well do that DT. They could call it the Portland Bill and the numbskulls would just move on.
DTC @ 1910.
I think you mean George II to George III, son of Frederick, Prince of Wales. George IV was the eldest son of George III.
//and profoundly grateful for his extraordinary service to the nation over so many years//
How so?
How has Philip enriched your own life?
Has he actually enriched anyones life?

Yes he has. He supported the Queen, without whom we would not have a royal family, that would leave us living in a republic, like the USA or France.
Would you like that?
I wouldn't.
He has enriched countless numbers of young peoples lives through the Duke of Edinburgh Award Scheme.
He was patron of numerous charities.
//Would you like that?
I wouldn't.//

Oh dear.
How sad.
Never mind!

Wouldnt want to live in a theocracy either.
Thank God for our Royal family , I agree with TL
Me neither!

Your point is?
(You do have a point?)
Making comparisons like that is scraping the bottom of the barrel.
Seems the Duke of Edinburgh award helped many...

It's a good sign that some of the assembled have already got over the shock of the news and are able to get back to business as usual.

Shows that the indomitable British character is still abroad.

At least I THINK that's what it shows.
//Your point is?//
My point is stop hero worshipping.
During the war he was a first lieutenant on one of the warships and managed to foil an attack by the Luftwaffe. He also had to battle against his German relations who were on opposing battleships at sea. That can't have been easy .
