He had an awful childhood. I saw a documentary about it a few years ago.
Lcg, i think perhaps many were too,
What I meant, if you'd care to look into his 'growing up', was that he washed dishes and was brought up as an ordinary person. George VI and Queen Mother disapproved of Elizabeth's choice because he had a raucous laugh - like Elizabeth herself and didn't behave in a 'regal' manner. They didn't think he'd fit in to royal life.
He may have had to walk behind the Queen in public, but apparently he was the boss 'at home', and that's the way the Queen wanted it.
Just seen this. RIP. Sad news for the royal family.
he basically fitted in and reshaped the royals to what they are today.
even with all the difficulties.
I wonder if she'll re-marry. I'm available!
Think there'll be a queue davebro??
He apparently expressed a wish for a low profile funeral. That doesn't surprise me - he was a down to earth man. I thought he was great and loved his sense of humour. Please don't let this thread be about Harry or Megan. Who cares whether they come over or not.

I personally feel very sorry indeed for our Queen.
Just come in and heard the news on the radio. I feel sad about this, even though he was a 'good age' and he looked very ill when he came out of hospital. The Queen has now lost her 'rock and her stay' and I'm sorry for her. Not ashamed to admit that I am quite tearful here. RIP Sir xxx
It is upsetting, even though it had to happen at some point. He really was a great character and, I think, far stronger than he was made out to be.
I'm not even particularly a Royalist... but I dread the Queen dying anyway.
Yes me too APC, I answered re Harry but this thread isn’t about them, it’s about the loss of our Monarchs husband and I said earlier , I’m sure she’ll feel the love from those who care about them
I have Prince Philips ‘gaffes’ on my Kindle , hilarious
Lankeela, the title of this thread is fine, not blunt at all.
The Duke has died, he’s dead, what else could be said?
We both feel very sad about his death, I think he was a great bloke and spoke his mind as much as he was able to, given the constraints of being a Royal.
Poor old queenie, she won’t half miss him.
No shame there at all, BS. I shed a tear when I saw the announcement just after 12.
Let's hope, if there is too large a turnout for his funeral it will not have any influence on the spreading of the Covid virus. ( fingers crossed )
I left the radio on when I went out on a dog walk tiggs and as I walked back in I heard the presenter say 'as a mark of respect to the Duke' and I knew immediately Philip had died. I actually burst out crying, not only because it's sad when a loved one dies and you know they will be missed, but I remember his face when he came out of hospital and it reminded me totally of my beloved Dad a few weeks before he died and I knew the Duke didn't have long left.
I'm reminded of the old gag 'What's a Greek urn?'

A deal of respect.
gully - - out doors there is very low transmission
we know that from Dorset last year ( a million tries and no blip )

getting to and fro may be a problem tho
Burly, I know exactly what you mean. Those photos taken when came out of hospital immediately showed he was close to death. They should never have been taken in my opinion. Intrusive media!
what is wrong wiv - - dook dead?

short and to the point - no loss of detail...
