aren't they ensconsed in No 9 Downing street....
That's 'buy' not 'but' :-(
Number 11
no 11 then. How did Derry Irvine get away with the massive outlay on his office ?
It was his office. Not his private residence.
650k to makeover his office in the Houses of Parliament, heavens sake.
all paid by the taxpayer presumably, but this was Labour all over.
Yes, I remember there was quite a fuss about it at the time, as you would expect.

But Boris's issue is £200K (by some accounts) to make over his private residence, using a bung or two rather than taxpayers' money.
we don't know that yet do we, it;s being looked into now.

Well Nicola didn't have to.
well said, ^^
Yep. Hardly worth investigating, really ...

We get the politicians we deserve.
we got Boris and for now he's staying put, unless there is a massive vote of no confidence, not sure who would take over though.
// no 11 then. How did Derry Irvine get away with the massive outlay on his office ?//

on the rules as was - he got the relevant civil servant to approve under protest - and the rules were changed.
Tremendous reputational damage and he later left office with a reputation that he was as thick as his actions suggested
( also compared himself to Cardy Wolsey - hem hem)
From the Daily Mirror; "In a makeover inspired by designer Lulu Lytle, Mr Johnson and Ms Symonds are said to have chosen £800 per roll gold wallpaper, a £9,800 Baby Bear sofa and a £3K Lily Drum table."
"There was a £30K cap on taxpayer funds for the work, so the PM had to find another £58,000 to cover the bill." Of course, the argument is where he got the £58K from?
we are undoubtedly waiting with baited breath to find out

//Of course, the argument is where he got the £58K from?//

Why do you think he wouldn't have £58K? He's a wealthy man.
didn't Boris moan recently about the pay for being PM? - he is well off by most people's standards its true.
Prime Ministers are paid a piffling amount for the job they do - I wouldn't do it for the money - but Boris has a personal wealth of several millions.
wonder if Dylin will be allowed on the £9,800 Baby Bear sofa?
