has anyone heard of this before, as you have till June 23rd to opt out. I will be telephoning my GP first thing, isn't this a total breach of confidentiality, your medical records up for grabs.

not according to the receptionist at my surgery. I would ring yours for advice first. i thought it would be simply doing the NHS on line one, but it isn't according to her. You can save it as a word doc i guess and e mail to your surgery.
It is enough to fill it in online but not everyone can - not everyone uses the internet. The form you hand to the GP is the other option.
Thanks emmie. I was concerned because I don't have a printer ! I'll check with my techno brother about saving it as a word doc., I'm rubbish at 'tech' stuff !

me too BShirley
I’ve filled in the online form and received a text confirming my choice so as far as I am aware there is no need to fill in a form as well.
I shan't be filling it in, why would I? If it can help other people and it is anonymised, why are some being so precious about them? It might help others and might in turn help you.
Totally agree Ladybirder. A good idea to share information
I thought that we had already done this. It would definitely make things easier if you were taken ill or had an accident miles away from home. At the moment different Health Centres even in the same locality don't always have access to a patients medical records.
I wouldn't trust any NHS IT systems as they are all out-sourced to profiteering contractors.

Had an example recently where my brother was about to be treated from my medical records at hospital, when he was alert enough to spot the error (by which time my confidential medical history was revealed to my brother, something which I did not want to happen.)
That sounds like some idiot not paying proper attention Canary which could happen any time any place.
Opted out.
YMB: "The form is 'buried' quite a way down which is either pretty disgusting way of trying to stop people opt out or sheer incompetence. Knowing NHS IT probably the latter which is why I am opting out." - yes as much as I am a fan of the concept of the NHS they are known to be terrible with software so I suspect it's simply poor design rather than an attempt to make it difficult.
// I am sure it has been discussed on here before too in the past week or so.//

discussed - as in scored 500 mindless 'foos'

yes you should opt out
the whole record goes to a thrid party
you dont know
money changes hands ( not into your hands)
it is pseudo anonymised ( your name and address is there somewhere)
yes the offer closes 23 Jun 21
and finally
yes some MPs are mounting a court challenge on th usual
( lack of consdent and breach of confidentiality)
I think the law is clear on
" ya didnt use the pink form so ya didnt opt ooooouuuut!"
as
ya DID opt out

email for GP should be sufficient - he is the one giving up the data ( ie is the data controller fthat set of data)
ymb, yes, after their last attempted plans for a data-grab failed, they said lessons would be learned. The FT's take on this was "Yeah, we've learned that the best way to do it is to not tell anyone."
// (by which time my confidential medical history was revealed to my brother, something which I did not want to happen.)//
is not really relevant here
where
they ARE giving out data
it isnt by mistake
the records WILL be yours
and something will be done with the data

oh and your brother probably knew
if it is anything like my family
certainly didnt tell 5500 other people
AND big Pharma

yeah I had radiotherapy mix up at the Christie
with the clerk unwisely saying .....
I dont know what you are talking about
he did later

// The FT's take on this was "Yeah, we've learned that the best way to do it is to not tell anyone."//

hi jno - you little hidden zurich financier
do you do the FT every day ?
I have to say that your er inside knowledge is MOST impressive - to someone who can read that is!
I have a super-premium subscription, available only to authenticated world leaders.
oh, I say I have three nobel prizes
but it never seems to work
well, I've tried to fill in the online NHS form. I got to a page that said I would receive a security code by email, which would have to be used within 30 minutes.

30 minutes later it hasn't even arrived yet.

I suppose they could have popped it into the post to me. But a week or two back I received an NHS letter by post. Just a report of a consultation I'd had, sent to me and my GP. But though I got it in late May, the actual date on the letter was early April. And the consultation was in early February.

So two months to write the report, and two more months to send it. This is why, much as I like the NHS, I don't really trust them with data.
