if the students were hoping to show their woke credentials here, taking down a photograph probably won't do it. The student body should instead consider quitting the colleges en-masse if such things as colonialism do concern them. Most of the college buildings & assets were or have been derived from royal patronage &/or the profits from Georgian &...

To be replaced with Che Guevara or Corbyn no doubt.

Haha , probably Webbo
Also, it's in the news because it's Oxford...not a local further education college where students are doing travel and tourism or agricultural studies.
I've heard a whisper it is to be replaced by a framed picture of Frank Gallagher. Replacing the head of one dysfunctional family with another.

With those views , you will be :0))))
It really is a big fuss about nothing, in my most humble opinion. The photograph was bought by a previous crop of students and hung in 2013. It could just as easily have been a photograph of a highland stag or the New York skyline. Surely those students who use this room are entitled to have a say on what they would like hanging on their walls.
I'm sure Mrs Windsor likes nothing more than a nice sit down with rolling news while necking her Nescafe.

The antics of self-important schoolchildren is said to be among her favourites.

Nescafé Doogie? C’mon :0)))
Nothing but the best , whatever coffee’s best is, for our lovely lady ;0)
It's students doing what students do, looking round for things to do in their unfeasibly large amounts of free time

The Mail and others do what they do, make candyfloss - whipping nothing into something and getting its readers' trolleys in a rubble.

So no change there then.
i always put my photo of ER back on the mantelpiece just before she calls round for tea . . .
Idiots all. They should be careful what they wish for. They don't know how lucky they are.
naomi - // They don't know how lucky they are. //

Your sentiment chimes with the great Oscar Wilde - "Youth is wasted on the young."

And we all know it's true, we don't appreciate our youth when we have it, which is part of its appeal, and we all blush to look back at the silly notions we so passionately thought were ours first and ours alone.

Cancelling the monarch would not have been one of them, but imagining that if we all sat down in the road, governments would stop building nuclear weapons certainly was.
Good grief, some students put a poster up in 2013 of the Queen in their Common Room. Now, the students who use the Common Room, want to take down the poster and change it.....like you do......

Its not an official genuine portrait, not commissioned by the Uni, but something bought from a shop less than 10 years ago.

Some people need to get a grip on reality. Students take down and put up all sorts of posters in THEIR private spaces.

Piers Morgan howling on Twitter for " Tower of London imprisonment powers restored for these insolent wastrels" wants locking up himself for just being , well, a prize Twit!

At the risk of repeating my point - this is what students, and professional agitators like Piers Morgan do - it's Pavlovian and pointless, and everyone will move on to something else in a day or so.
Unbelievable funny . Some of the post n this OP . Thanks for the giggle .
Which bits are tickling your funny bone Anne?
AH, //we all blush to look back at the silly notions we so passionately thought were ours first and ours alone.//

That’s not true at all. The old hippie that is Jeremy Corbyn and the mentality of people like him attests to that. The cancel culture is alive and kicking - as hard as it can!
