Andy -I don't believe the students did this to make a political point. Some right wing, right on loonies have got wind of it and are trying to make a mountain out of a molehill.

For goodness sake it was a crappy old poster someone bought off the market in 2013......
APG, It chimes very well with students’ recent penchant for cancelling classical music and literature - not to mention the fate that has befallen the previously good reputations of colleges and other institutions. It isn’t a one off. It’s yet another example of a growing culture that I, personally, abhor.
Maybe a picture of Handy Andy would be more appropriate ?

AH, //we all blush to look back at the silly notions we so passionately thought were ours first and ours alone.//

That’s not true at all. The old hippie that is Jeremy Corbyn and the mentality of people like him attests to that. The cancel culture is alive and kicking - as hard as it can! //

Allow me please to refine my point -

Those of us who have actually had to live in the world and seek employment and interact with our peers, and generally grow up, look back and accept that we have moved on.

People like Jeremy Corbyn, shielded from anything approaching reality, are naturally exempt from that process.

That's what's called knowing the price of everything and the value of nothing. I'm surprised at you, APG.

On reflection, I think you are absolutely right.

The most mundane and innocent of actions can be twisted into something that some will find outrageous, if you twist it hard enough, you can make it look likr something a universe away from what it actually is.
// Guns at Batasi - Richard Attenborough / RSM Lauderdale//

I remember the horse faced woman - oh bonny - thank god
and Bonny - the black now leader rips her off a strip

HM must have had a strong cuppa when she heard first the kid would have her cherished childhood nickname

what will she say to Harry - god you are just like my uncle
To me.
This is no big deal and no surprise.......indeed NOTHING is a surprise to me any more.
We live in a different world that was my teenaged and student environment and values have changed.
I am sick to the teeth of black situations coming to the fore and tired of sexual and gender subdivisions.

I just sit, smile and wonder........what next?

sqad you'd have got a best answer with that but I know you don't go in for them . so.... :-0 ))

Well I guess if you feel the students lives will be enhanced by being forced to keep a poster on a wall because it may outrage some old crumbly if its taken down , then your values don't align with mine. You obviously don't agree with the rights of students to vote. The poster was taken down after a majority vote to do so.

Apg put it perfectly. They chose to put it up in their private space and then changed their minds. Their choice.
I thought the problem with "cancel culture" was that it was mob-rule and undemocratic last time. This is purely democratic- and still wrong. Can't win!
APG, I didn’t suggest they be forced but I’m disappointed that many of our youth, particularly the apparently educated, don’t appear to be capable of seeing further than their fashionably woke noses.
MAABOF!

It's hardly "woke" or PC, if unrelated other people are offended by their reasoning.

I am not offended by this as a Royalist, I find it quite pathetic that these people who often end up as our Politicians are brainwashed with this kind of stuff but like all of their far flung ideals, it will fizzle out no doubt
I doubt anyone is offended tbh... although I would be interested to see how many ABers have a poster of the queen in display in their own homes.
It seems I am not allowed to speculate as to the subject of the picture put in it's place, others are. Another rule for me that I was not aware of.
