if the students were hoping to show their woke credentials here, taking down a photograph probably won't do it. The student body should instead consider quitting the colleges en-masse if such things as colonialism do concern them. Most of the college buildings & assets were or have been derived from royal patronage &/or the profits from Georgian &...
I read somewhere, (sorry no link), that the USA have ordered a replacement for Airforce 1, at a cost of two and a half billion dollars!
Our Royals come much cheaper than that, even with their foibles that get the chattering classes all het up.
Our Royals perform an important role, and cheap at the price.
As for the students, beneath contempt.
Haha! I can believe that mamyalynne, but hardly a political issue. It saddens me that some people are so determined to undermine and ultimately destroy the history and the heritage of this great country of ours.
Theland I have never worked out what the royal family actually do that is important for people like me ie ordinary people. I equally have no idea why anyone would want a picture of total strangers up in their work places etc. I have never worked out why there are outpourings of grief when one of them dies....do people really get distressed over the death of total strangers???
Maybe honestly they thought the photo was boring as hell and wanted something more arty than monarchy.... It's not need to be a big dal fact piers Morgan has had a say on it proves my point
What's the opposite of woke where if any young person wants to change something you're set in your ways and grumpy about it? I do not know but there needs to be a word for it. Maybe nearly dead opposed to woke? Or tired? Tired of constantly having a say about someone elses say
None of us live at this university we've no idea how refreshing new art may be.
I really cannot get up in the air about student's common room decor, the print will be stored until such time as another group decide they want to display it.
NTKP, that is the meaning of woke. Aware... literally. It is just used sarcastically on here.
Naomi, honestly- do you believe that a single human being alive, thinks that taking a picture down, or removing a statue.... genuinely believes that changes history? I have only seen that concept on AB so far. Surely, anyone who thinks that no longer admiring someone, "changes" the past... has a lot more problems than dislike of a picture.
It’s not as simple as that though, is it mamyalynne. From universities, schools, and institutions such as the British Museum and the National Trust, I think we all know this is a growing trend ... despite denials.
It may well be. But why freedom of speech and freedom of democratic action- for those involved, is a negative- i don't get.
And please don't tell me that democracy is not what I think it means :-).
Why, should some people unrelated... and you can have as many buzzwords as you like- virtue signallers, snowflakes, gammons, PCers, "woke"... but I won't, because I'm not 5.... have any opinion at all, on something that doesn't affect them?
Mallyj - The Police, our military, and government swear allegiance.
While they are there, no tin pot dictator can take over.
Yes they bug us at times, but their role is important.
It also doesn't answer, naomi... that while it gets suggested here time to time, do you honestly think that anyone believes not displaying a picture or a photo "changes history" in any way?
