1. What would you suggest Lee Anderson does for a couple of hours tonight as England play their biggest football match in over fifty years?
2. If he's so offended by players taking the knee, why not just not watch the opening and tune in at the start of the match???
3. Is he a snowflake?

One of the reasons that England has done better this year is that they've been more of a team, standing up for each other, and less a collection of individuals as in the past. Nice to see so many people supporting their team, too. Obviously not Lee Anderson, poor chap, but I'm not sure that anybody will miss him ...

Then why bother? Unless you're trying to inflate your ego even more, if that's possible, PP?
...ps the way I read the 'Calculus controversy', Newton sent his ideas to Collins, who showed the ideas to Leibniz. Suddenly Leibniz had the same idea. Leibniz was accused of plagiarising other works, not just Newtons, and was eventually found guilty.
That's according to the book I've read - there appear to be many books on the subject and it was a very long time ago, so who knows what really happened and does it really matter any more?

Ellipsis, // If they didn't take the knee, would they have the collective mindset, team spirit, camaraderie, that's taken them to the final? Probably not.//
What absolute rot! How do you imagine teams made it to the final of anything before ‘taking the knee’ was all the rage?
If anyone is expecting to conduct a reasonable discussion with SP on the subject of racism, forget it. It’s something he doesn’t do - and never has. SP considers that any opinion that contradicts his own is worthy only of ridiculous slights.

What, our teams? Perhaps if you can list the finals reached by the men's football teams of England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland in the last 50 years, I can answer your question ...

I get what you're saying, but I don't think you expressed quite right. Taking the knee might be considered a symbol of unity - the team have taken a stand on something and are willing to accept the boos and criticism as a whole team.
In that context taking the knee isn't is a symbol of team unity rather than the cause of it.

Clearly, SP doesn't give a *** about slavery or equality around the world.
He is clearly a race-baiting agitator looking to sow his seed of division on Answerbank and on a wider scale the UK...why else wouldn't he address my Q?
Hands up, who had heard of Lee before tonight?
Hands up who had heard of the modern slavery in Qatar before tonight? (massive difference in the two)

Yes...it might look like I ridicule the opinions of others. I can DEFINITELY see why you say that.
And you're right - I can't get into a reasonable discussion about race (or indeed any other topic) because I don't have the time to keep a back and forth going over many days (as you do).
Knowing you as I do, I think you'll be eager to get the last word in, so the floor is open to you. Whatever you post next will be the winning entry in this thread and prove once again that you are the Best Person on the AnswerBank™.

sp1814, I read a news story saying the famous actor Lawrence Fox was in the same bind. Having announced that he wouldn't be backing the England team because of this shameful knee-taking, he risked being accused of being anti-England now they were in the final, so he had to back down.
The writer said it was a clear case of people with principles vs self-advertising virtue signallers ... but perhaps it wasn't the footballers who were the latter.

> If ‘taking the knee’ is the secret of success I wonder how any team ever felt a sense of camaraderie without it
It is the other way around. The camaraderie leads to taking the knee to show support for every member of the team. You only have to look at the horrendous racist comments posted by "supporters" on social media since the loss to understand why a white member of the team would show true support to a black member of the team. One team, what affects one affects all.

//Will they take the knee in Qatar which has the death penalty for homosexuality and women can face 7 years in prison for having sex out of wedlock and at present over 6,500 migrants have died build the stadiums they will be playing in.//
I'm no fan of Qatar webbo but come on, that figures monsense. The official figure is 30, yes thats 37 too many but nothing like 6500. That higher figure is deaths of migrants anywhere in Quatar for any reason in the last 10 years or so is'nt it
