My partner is from South Africa and her children are there. We used to go there every winter but obviously because of Covid this did not happen last winter. She has now booked to go back next month - but I did not. Now she is having doubts about going. Friends there, and in other parts of the world, think coming now is a very bad idea. Yes I too realised that a long time ago. what's happening now is no surprise. I am glued to the videos and social media they are sending. It is so sad. My heart is aching. Im sure your colleagues feel the same. For some of your colleagues they may have family who are stuck there, (I only got out cos I married a brit ....for love btw not his passport)
Just an aside ... but did you know that you were paying for this. They now have a pidgin translation for "readers" who may not(sarc) be paying for a licence. Tower of Babel indeed.

One standard beeb tree hugger straight from uni - stuffed full of tired marxist dogma as good ideas die hard was on her high horse over - - - South Africa - and speaking to another marxist on site in South Africa. She was telling us like it is.
Zuma as any fule kno (a) is a rapist and has done 'state capture' and sold South Africa to the Guptas. Even some at the Beeb (b) are dimly aware: https:/
he is now serving 15 m in the slammer. Others look on Zuma as a saviour at least as good as Mandela and on a par with Mbeki. The boys are demonstrating in various areas - and it is clear their demonstrations involve looting burning and killing in an excellent cause.
So what was the opinion of the South African correspondent ? She reminded me strongly of the loyal but innumerate journo at Mugabe's 90th (c) saying everyone welcomed his second 90 years.She didnt say then that everyone who didnt cheer Mugabe, didnt get their daily ration. They were hungry and cheered loudly.
The current South African demonstators we were told had a right to do this ( hem hem) and were demanding that the govt act to release Zuma(d). To show this was a chapter in the current anti-imperial struggle, she prolonged the final syllables to a wail - to freeeeee heeeeeem....Liberation beckoned with just one more burning tyre(e)
Demonstating against judicial decisions ( per se as we might say) is NOT really a right as the judges are meant to be independent. I admit that outside the GMC in London when that arch-quack was struck off ( Dr Wakeford) , his anti-vaxxer supporters sang outside - "we will over come". GMC is not a court of record. They did not burn shoot or loot anything. And the GMC was deaf to their song.(*)
But the govt reversing a judicial decision: where did that idea come from? South Africa of course ! Om Paul Kruger ( the little beeb tree hugger will ask in a gormless essex nasal whine- "Paul Who-ger? who he ven?")(e) during the 'years of anarchy' insisted that the volksraad ( legislature to you and me of the Dutch Republics) could interpret laws as to how the judges should judge. The Grundwet.
Not separating Legislature and judiciary is a bad mistake and directly led to the legal anarchy which precipitated war in Nov 1899. So Maleema has all the ideas to directly convert South Africa into a Marxist paradise - typical of the economic basket cases to the north - Zim and Zambia, 100 y later. The idea that an idea ( er Marxist liberation that is ! ) fails - why dont we do the experiment again and see if it still fails ? All they are going to do if it does, is walk north and catch a boat to Italy
I vote for much more turgid Marxist sludge - like early morning castor oil ! - forward the Beeb and the freedom movement in South Africa - you can do it!

(f) - Att Gen v Beeb - no 1 2001 - ( exp p GMC) is the standard case for contempt of court. GMC tried to have the Beeb committed and was surprised to be told that they were nt a court of record so no go. Demonstrators ALSO allowed....

No,i shouldnt think so.Since whitey was ousted from South Africa,South Africa has the lowest crime rate in the world,the lowest prison population in the world and no unemployment as such.It has also no racist crimes such as black people killing white people.It is a veritable paradise from what ive heard.
