AH/Mozz, David didn’t say the man he knew was a friend, but that’s beside the point. I’m happy to indulge the fantasies of the confused elderly and the mentally ill but indulging those who are presumably compos mentis makes me dishonest - and that I do object to. As I said, you call them what you like, and so will I.
so they are, perhaps we should have a transgender games, then more can compete. She is still a bloke though no matter what one says, and in that spirit shouldn't be allowed to compete in a women's sporting event, as he will have something of an advantage in muscle etc.
I have no issues with transgenders..what they choose to do to their bodies and how they live is entirely up to them...BUT... competitive sport , especially at Olympic level, should be restricted to birth/genetic gender for very obvious reasons... Caitlyn Jenner, perhaps the most famous sportsman that has morphed, also takes this stance, nevertheless he makes a very nice she and I do admire him/her
Sex is a bit more complicated than chromosomes etc... you don't "detect" someone's chromosomes by looking at them... If you encountered Laverne Cox or Carmen Carrera in the street and did not know who they were, you would interact with them as though they were women, chromosomes or not...
but this is totally different, highest sporting event in the world and sorry men who have transitioned like the weight lifter shouldn't be allowed to compete against natural born females.
Naomi - would you call the athlete a 'bloke' to her face, or does your 'plain speaking' restrict itself to the privacy - and safety - of being offensive out of earshot?
because blokes have a different set of muscles, body mass and are usually stronger than most females. He is still a bloke and not much i can add will make a difference to you obviously.
sorry i am not about to change my opinion on this.
If a male All Black rugby player decided to transition to female would it be acceptable to let him play in a women's rugby tournament. No sorry its just not feasible.
do as you please, you didn't answer my legit question either. but if you think mocking and sarcasm is the way to go then so be it, no skin off my nose as it were.
To me it is all about chromosomes, the only fair and tangible way to differentiate between men and women.
What they think they are or feel what they are is irrelevant in competitive sport as pointed out by Murraymint.
XX and XY divide the well accepted definition of men and women, but yes, there are abnormalities ofthe sex chromosomes but mainly cause medical conditions with disabilities not consistent with competitive sport.
One thing that has been forgotten here is the impact of being on a diet of oestrogen and testosterone blockers - very quickly and actually one of the first changes that happens is a considerable loss of muscle power and it only takes 3 months for the process to start showing - by two years it is at it's maximum. Presently, World Athletics requires that transgender athletes and athletes with differences of sexual development have testosterone levels ≤5 nmol/L in order to be eligible for the female category - and to be within the parameter of 'ordinary' women....
The Olympic Committee has also indicated that it's going to revisit the feminine qualification levels after these Games.......
