Geronimo is to be put to sleep tomorrow.

I agree that, if he has TB he should be destroyed, but what if his owner is right and the test is flawed.

It's not really just about one animal amongst thousands that are slaughtered daily it's about the heavy-handedness and inflexible government rules (not just the Tories or the UK govt).

// all sense and rationality disappearing out of our minds at times.//

Poor little thing, I hope it's done kindly and he's not scared. I'm with david small.
My guess is itll have a PM, and if it's shown to have tb no-one will ever hear anything again, whereas if it doesn't have tb we won't hear the end of t
has it made alpaca meat into the little refugee sarnies yet?
What an irresponsible owner for not isolating geronimo in a secure stable. TB is contagious & infects other beasts & fields. Owner breeds alpacas for their skins & she can still earn from geronimo. Time will tell if her other alpacas are infected. nb Its easier to disinfect a stable than to disinfect fields.
Babies and children are being abused on a daily basis, as are animals in Britain today. Headlines about an alpaca . !!!
Have all her other alpacas been tested negative? And, if yes, has she readily accepted the results of those tests?
Terrified poor boy. What a horrible end for him.
Oh and of course those of us who care about Geronimo don't give a toss about abused children, starving children, dying children in Africa or anyone else except Geronimo. OK AA and co?
ladybirder, the poor animal was terrified. What a sad sight it was. It could have been far less worrying for him had the owner agreed to her usual vet putting him to sleep without the whole entourage there. I fear she may have done this to give some martyrdom to this unfortunate story.
I'm pleased I didn't see it.
The owner caused this animal to be distressed. It could all have been done in a dignified manner quietly on the farm .
Choux, totally agree. She could have led the animal into the box herself. even maybe accompanying it to it's final destination. Allowing it to be led away by total strangers certainly wasn't in the animal's best interests.
there wouldnt have had to be police and all that there if the "protesters" that are now moaning about the police presence werent there
"Terrified poor boy. What a horrible end for him."

The reason it was "terrified" (or probably more likely it was alarmed) was because there were two dozen people tearing round after it in a field. One thing is certain - it was not terrified because it feared death. Animals don't know what death is, they don't know it's going to befall them and this particular one had not been reading the papers for the last month or so.

Where terror really kicks in is when a dairy farmer is told his herd is infected with TB. Terror strikes him because he does not know what the future holds for him, his family, his business and his livelihood.
Really? What on earth causes cattle to escape from abattoirs, I wonder?
They have a natural aversion to being confined and shoved about. They would try to escape from anywhere they don't feel safe and comfortable but the concept of death is not something an animal possesses.
I don't understand why they had to drag him into the lorry. Didn't they try coaxing him? And the number of police defies belief. I merely presumed a vet would go the farm and put him down, it would have been a lot kinder.
